Reading between the lines at Rex's PC, it sounds like he is reading shotty the riot act. Rex is not going to call his OC out to the media, but I am sure that behind closed doors, Rex had alot to say. Previous to this he was totally hands off on the offense. This PC he was stating how we need to put Mark in a position to succeed. One would therefore assume that the OC was not doing that to this point and it needs to change. It's about time.
Brian Schottenheimer put Mark Sanchez in a few horrible situations against the Bills. After watch these first five games, it looks to me like Schotty had simplified the passing game a little bit and just took what the defense was giving him...but against the Bills, it seemed like he was trying way to hard to get Braylon Edwards the ball - Sanchez forced the ball to Edwards on a few plays.
I don't think Rex is going off behind the scenes. I think he wants Schotty to get it sorted out. If I was to read between the lines at all I would say Ihedigbo might be benched this week and Rex is worried about our ability to stop the run.
Good, I hope Rex finishes putting out the garbage...demote him to QB coach, he seems to be decent at that.
But was it Shotty telling Sanchez - Braylon is the only option. I certainly wouldn't think so - its more that Sanchez was not going through his progressions or making the right reads . All things that will come to a rookie QB with more game experience and better options at Wr.
I just cant see how Schotty can be a top head coach candidate. This guy is so inconsistent with his play calling and yesterday was a prime example. Presence my arse, Herm had a presence about him too.
i think it's agreed around here that Schotty insisted on passing the ball (especially in OT), despite the huge holes and success we had on the ground.
We need Cotch back, it'll make a huge difference. Who's Sanchez going to throw to? Butterfingers Clowney? Double teamed Edwards? Even Dustin Keller has been getting attention now.
I have been a Schotty supporter but he has not done a good job calling plays in a couple of these games (NO and Buffalo in particular). It started in NO where he did all those passes on 3rd and 1's and or 3rd and 2's and his PC on Sunday was pretty bad. Sanchez never should have thrown the ball as many times as he did.
Schotty would be a great coach for the Bills next year. That way the Jets can actually beat them twice a year.
I'm hoping this offseason, Dan Snyder decides that Schotty is his guy and hires him away from us. Better yet, perhaps we can get him to tamper with Schotts and come out of it with a few DP's that we'll actually use for once..
In the "how quickly perceptions can change" category, it was just a couple weeks ago that I read a "scouting report" that talked about how the Jets OC did nothing but put Sanchez in positions to do only good things with the football (simplfying reads, etc). Sorry, I can't recall the exact article. I'd agree though, we got a bit too pass happy during the saints game and the bills game. I don't think it's all Schotty. I don't think it's all Sanchez either (although why the heck you'd throw into triple coverage, I'm not sure). I'd lay a lot of the blame on our receiving corps. Edwards was the only one able to get open Sunday, from what I could see on TV anyway. Well, sorry, Keller was open too, but somebody amputated his hands before the game. I didn't hear Clowney's name at all. So, it's an interrelated series of failures that add up to a big steaming pile of dung. On the positive side, the OL seemed to do well knocking the Bills around and did well pass protecting. The defense played better than they did against Miami but not well enough to win.
