Just out of curiosity, what's your opinion on Zach Robinson, Mr. E? I like him as a sleeper in this draft. A couple of years with a good QB coach and getting him to rely more on his passing ability than his athleticism could make him into a decent starter.
Zac Robinson is an excellent athlete that is playing quarterback...like just about everyone (except Bradford) playing quarterback in the Big 12. OK State is actually the only team that was willing to give Robinson a shot at playing QB - Colorado, Colorado State, and Kansas State wanted him as a wide receiver. He's proved a lot of teams wrong with how successful he's been at QB. Oklahoma State runs an offense that inflates his numbers quite a bit. He doesn't really have to make as many reads because every throw is an option route or a quick throw. I know a lot of people look at his numbers and get excited, but those numbers don't necessarily reflect his play. He has some accuracy problems and that's never good when you lack elite arm strength. Right now, for me Robinson is very similar to Colt McCoy. Both have skinny builds and neither has the strongest arm, but they are both very athletic. I could see Zac Robinson getting selected in the middle rounds as a developmental quarterback that will probably end up a solid backup that could eventually become a starter.
He has 14 touchdowns with just 3 INTs as a sophomore. His completion percentage has been pretty bad against Bama and Florida...the two best defenses in the best conferences in college football. Other than Bama and Florida, Mallett has good completion percentage. Watch the highlights from the Arkansas/UGA game and tell me that this kid doesn't have tons of potential.
also, I don't get how you say McCoy doesn't have the size/ arm strength to play in the NFL, yet Tebow is listed as half an inch taller, and has a weaker arm, with worse mechanics, but he is the third best QB in your list.
Mallett could leapfrog everyone. I like Clausen, but don"t love his deep arm. I've seen him underthrow his receivers a bunch of times. I know I'll get killed for this.
Then don't say anything...cause you're wrong. Mallett isn't in the same universe as Clausen. Cause Mallett has a strong arm he's better than Jimmy C??? Please, try again!!!
I'm not talking about his height. I don't know if McCoy can bulk up, he's incredibly skinny. ...and Tebow doesn't have a weaker arm than Colt McCoy. Tebow just has an awkward release and that can be fixed through coaching.
Alright, fair enough WRT size. Little confusion on my part, but I'm not fully to blame Also, don't want you to think I'm being negative on your whole list. I do think Clausen is the best QB in this class, and I really, really like Pike (have him 3rd as of right now, behind Clausen/Bradford if he comes out) Just not as sold as some of these guys as you are
When Floyd has been playing, he has hit Michael in stride plenty of times with the deep ball. Tate is a guy who makes the circus catches usually so it comes off that way that Jimmy is underthrowing his targets.
Maybe I'm nitpicking, but he puts a ton of air under his deep throws. I think Sanchez's arm is better. Plus it bugs the shit out of me that he had ample oppurtunity to win that USC game.
Levi Brown of Troy just jumped up a few spots to me. Good arm, size and pocket awareness. I'd probably put him 4th, with a possibility of moving up. Wow.
Locker > Tebow as a QB. Hell, Locker > Mallett. Locker has the potential to be what people thought/think Cutler was/is.
I have Levi Brown really high on my QB list, higher than just about anyone else I've seen has him. He's a big guy with a strong arm and a lot of potential, and that's something we're not really seeing a lot of in this class. The more I think about Tony Pike and Sean Canfield, the more I think solid backups and little more.
I agree as well, especially the last part about Pike, people seem to forget he also comes from a fairly shotgun happy offense. I know his decision making and understanding of the game is pretty high but the best quarterbacks in the league are throwing thinkers, you may have one but you cant be on an elite level without the other
Well, since this thread keeps getting bumped - I'm going to edit post #1. I've updated the first post with how I see things now. A lot of things are much more clear now that the underclassmen declaration period is over. I made that list before I saw what Zach Callaros could do with that Bearcat offense. Tony Pike has completely fallen out of my top five. I've never liked his arm strength, but he was always a fringe top five QB because this is a very weak class.
