So Woodhead's transformation into the "Next Wayne Chrebet" is almost complete?

He needs about 15 concussions first.

The clear explanation here is that we don't want to risk any injuries, so we are going to be playing our practice squad against Buffalo. Afterall, its Buffalo.

The kid can definitely play and it's worth a shot to stick him in the slot and see what he can do. He's fast as hell so once he get's the ball, watch out. Edwards should be able to demand some attention from the DB's so that should free up Woodhead to wreak havoc across the middle since Buffalo's linebackers are hurting.

Hopefully he gets some good playing time this Sunday.

I say we get Leon more touches before we worry about sending Woodhead into the flats for a screen.

Hey, look at how well the Pats did sending a short, white, former QB into the slot to fill in for Welker- it's gotta work baby!

Rich Cimini says on his blog this afternoon that Woodhead could be elevated to the 53 man roster today or tomorrow if both Cotchery and Smith are declared out.

I have never seen a guy that has accomplished exactly zero at the NFL level get talked about as much as Woodhead does. The only guy that comes close was Leonard peters and his hair but even he wasn't nearly as much as Woodhead. It's amazing what being small and white with borderline NFL skills can do to a message board.

Besides being small (5feet8?) and white, in 2006 and 2007 he won the Harlon Hill Trophy, awarded to the best player in NCAA Division II football, and has the all-time single season rushing record in NCAA football.

I think he won the Jets best PS player award last year too.

I can't remember what the yearbook said, it was something like that.

You're right, he set records for his conference or something, I gotta read that damn yearbook when U get home, lol.

The idea that he is the next Wayne Crebet or Wes Welker seems like profiling to me.

I wouldn't mind seeing him get some carries in the backfield. We could run the wildcat and put him in the Ricky Williams position and let TJ play Ronnie Brown.

I would be excited about that if a real sports writer posted it, but Cimini continually makes things up.

Haha, exactly what I was thinking. Any member of the practice squad could be elevated if there are injuries. I wish he would report something other than his speculation or common sense

Cotchery and Smith are listed as doubtful.

Which translated probably means they will be on the 53 man roster, but won?t play.

Think that dramatically reduces Woodhead?s chances of suiting up Sunday. Shame I would like to see what the kid has as a slot guy. Rex had said in preseason that he the best hands of all the RB?s

Yes and here's a list of recent Heisman trophy winners given to the "best" college football player:

2006 Troy Smith Ohio State (Quarterback)
2005 Reggie Bush USC (Running Back)
    2004 Matt Leinart USC (Quarterback)
    2003 Jason White Oklahoma (Quarterback)
2002 Carson Palmer Southern California (Quarterback)
    2001 Eric Crouch Nebraska (Quarterback)
2000 Chris Weinke Florida State (Quarterback)
1999 Ron Dayne Wisconsin (Running Back)
1998 Ricky Williams Texas (Running Back)
    1997 Charles Woodson Michigan (Cornerback)
    1996 Danny Wuerffel Florida (Quarterback)
1995 Eddie George Ohio State (Running Back)
1994 Rashaan Salaam Colorado (Running Back)
1993 Charlie Ward Florida State (Quarterback)
    1992 Gino Torretta Miami (Quarterback)

Anything jump out from this list. I've highlited guys who either never made the NFL or who had marginal careers at best. Being the best Div II player means absolutely nothing.

Ugh. That seems awfully rushed to me. So, what, we cut someone who belongs on the 53? It's not like we need to run 5, 4, or even many 3 WR sets against the Bills. Their defense has been much more solid against the pass than the run. I expect us to ground and pound all day Sunday. What a waste to carry 6 WRs, even if 2 of them are hurt.

EDIT: Although, looking back, I do have to admit that if he modeled Welker prior to the Pats game, he very well could have been practicing the position for a while.
