Can't they just make a development league instead of this? Weren't there rumors about the UFL becoming the development league of the NFL? I wish It could work like that, same rules as the NFL and more opportunities for the players that don't make it.

After all football is the only sport in which you go NFL or bust, Basket is played all over the world and has a D-league, Baseball has the minors etc etc...

That'd be a great idea, I never understood that.

Some of these guys are wasting their time in College when the could concentrate all their time on learning football in the NFL minors. Makes complete sense to me.

I don't see why the owners would oppose it, they could get younger talent that is pro ready.

The UFL could turn out to be that anyway. Whatever league pops up, ultimately some good guys will end up in the NFL. The USFL produced a lot of guys who went on to be outstanding NFL players.

Haha, the only thing I knew about this league was that the NY team would suck. Because it always does. The Generals weren't good until the third year when they bought half the league, leading to its demise.

I don't agree with that. College should be for the young guys and that's good. What I'm saying is that I'm sure of all the players in the NFL that don't make it
some could become really good players if given another chance. How many games do practice squad players get? What about the UFA? Maybe they just need to play for one year in a sub-NFL division to show what they can really do.

It would be good for the players, good for the cities that get these new teams, good for the league (I'm sure they'd find a way to make money out of it) and good for the fans because we'd spend the season not only rooting for our team but also scouting these "reserve" teams discussing which players could be NFL ready.

Unfortunately my opinion of Goodell and how the NFL is run is extremely low and I think tey'll never understand all this and just settle for the product they have. Especially in these times of weak economy when it's hard to find investors...

PS What I would really love is a situation like in soccer in Europe where every year the worst team in the league gets relegated to the lower league and viceversa... that would really light a fire under the franchise asses (but that will just never EVER hapen so let's just keep it out of the discussion).

Think of all the kids that get signed by MLB teams and skip college and spend all their time getting Pro ready.

College is good for some, the ones that need College to impress. But the likes of A-ROD in football could go right to a NFL minor league team and be PRO ready without all the College BS.

It's not like I'm breaking new ground here this has been discussed for years.
I agree with it, and you don't. So that's about it I guess.

This hasn't been discussed for years and shouldn't even be a consideration. A guy drafted in baseball typically isn't ready to make an MLB roster. That's not the same in football. If you're drafted, you're usually making the team in camp. HUGE difference. People don't make very much money in the minors at all unless they're a high draft pick that's expected to make a significant pro impact. Those comparable players in the NFL? Well, they're already in the NFL from day one. The other guys would be playing for peanuts in a minor league system trying to get into the NFL. They're much better suited getting a college degree.

2010 Recap: 10 am CST title game, Jim Fassel = Vince Lombardi of UFL.....

2011 will start in the first week of August and for the whole month they will have a Sunday schedule. Definitely six teams but possibly eight all playing a 10 game schedule.

Added a Virginia franchise nickname the Destroyers. Not to be confused with the former Destroyers arena league team.

They changed the name of the AFL team to the "Connecticut Whales"

I have very mixed emotions on this...
