I'm a smart guy. I've got 2 engineering degrees and a relatively important job. Despite telling everyone I know before yesterdays game that it was too early to get excited about the Jets....I've been sick all day about that loss. Since waking up, not 5 minutes have gone by without replaying that heartbreaking frustrating loss.

My screen name, avatar, and signature artwork are constant reminders that this team always finds a way to punch me in the gut. Still, I keep believing something will be different. Why does it affect me so much? I should know better.

What is worse is that Sunday I'm driving my 9 year old son 4 hours to go to his first Jet game. I'm knowingly perpetuating the cycle of pain. What kind of a father am I?

We have to be nuts to love this team.

It probly feels worse because we lost in a way that no1 expected......our defense let us down......Im sure i wasnt the only one that expected us to stop them on their last drive and win by 3.......(Rex ryan obviously did lol not using any of our timeouts lol)

I don't know man, but i think everyone here understands you. Same are angry, others are disappointed, but the overwhelming feeling is just love this team, better or worse.

    I know the feeling.

While on the surface it seems like a not so serious, early-season road loss...what it did was make us aware that this team is not the elite team we were praying they were. Fact is, we were starting to feel that this team was the 2000 Baltimore Ravens...an unbeatable defense that barely needed an offense to win a championship. We feel that a team like that would not have lost last night.

That being said...that Ravens team lost 4 games that season...so all hope is not lost (not to mention I believe we have a better offense than that Ravens team did.)

For your son just put it down to 'character building' (not that your little man needs that)

In Aussie football my team is a sucessful one, which is nice. I have seen them win 4 titles in 25 years. But when I see friends who are fans of teams that haven't won in their lifetime I have a lot of respect for them and their unwavering passion. Then when they eventually do win a title the elation is something that only they can experience. I'm sure that one day Jets fans will feel that thrill.

Always temper your enthusiasm when it come to the Jets...always. I was born in 1970 and have been a Jets fan all my life and never got to see Namath win the title, so I know what I speak of. What I see is a good team that can be better. But by no means are they perfect or unbeatable. Hardly any team in the NFL is so keep things in perspective and be
confident we are headed in the right direction.

I feel your pain. Today was a hard day. I couldn't sleep after the loss and had to fight my way through the day.

As the son of one who instilled a love for this team, I have to say we are all stronger for it. Think of it, Steelers fans believe Super Bowl rings grow on trees and expect life to be easy. Cowboy fans are pansies – enough said. 49er fans got the Montana years, but had to pay penance in the form of depression and substance abuse watching their team these past ten years.

While I live for the day we are champs, I must admit it could be worse. Many teams haven’t made it to or out of the 1st round of the playoffs in years. The Texans, Browns, Bengals, Bills, Lions, Dolphins…. Ah, S@#%! Now I’m depressed again.

I hate fans who shit on their team but I have to say this and get it off my chest..being a Jet fan is like being in an abusive relationship.

Every time you think they turned it around and they changed they punch you in the face again...

I agree with you, we've all been let down by the Jets before but for some reason this one stings as bad as I can remember. Even last week when Sanchez struggled, I still thought that no one could stop our D. Seeing them carve up our vaunted defense made me sick to my stomach, and even now the thought of last nights game makes my stomach churn.

Lets stop the Beningo routine fellas, it sucked when we woke up this morning, but its week 5 and we are 3-2 with the Bills on tap. Looks like we have ourselves a deep passing game which will allow to quick strike teams and run the ball. The defense can be fixed for sure. We are not the best defense in the league but are gonna be a top ten and our offense is now legite. We are in good shape as long as we win at home this weekend as we will . 4-2 with the Raiders on tap, sign me up. The season just started.

What's funny is that I'm one of the guys telling others to temper their expectations with this team....the problem is they always find a way to suck me in. I guess I want to believe so bad, that even when my head says that they are the Jets, my heart is still out there waiting to be crushed.

I know it is one loss, and I still think we are a playoff team (f*ck, here I go again), but the reality is the wild card isn't the path to a Championship. We need to win the division and get some home playoff games.

Oh well....I've vented, so I'll make it til next week.

It's week 5. Jets lead the division. A lot of people during the offseason, didn't think we would have 3 wins at this point. It's fine

You are crazy is whats wrong with you. There is ALOT to like about this team. From Tanny to Rex to the players to the new stadium. The loss hurt us all yesterday, but it is good to be a Jets fan these days. People complain too much.

You're not crazy at all. Last night's game was probably 3rd or 4th on the most painful games list for me, and it's a deep fucking list. It sucked. I'm trying hard to take some positive out of that game. We had a better YPC average than the Phins (4.6 to 4.2), our passing game looked solid despite obvious timing issues between Sanchez and Edwards. The problem is, right now I'm having a tough time giving two shits about the positives.

I've tried hard not to make predictions about the season since Game 1, and I'm no closer to doing so today. If we can stay in contention, perhaps there's a chance to get both sides of the team on track and see some success. Right now, though, I've been nauseous all fucking day, and I don't see it going away any time soon.

Yeah, but a game is a game. If it happens again on Sunday then it is time to feel sick or freak out about the team and question why you like them. Not yet.

Wild Card teams can go all the way too.

05 Steelers and 07 Giants - they knocked off the Perfect Pats.

Will OP disappear after a 4 game winning streak only to show up after a tough loss to the Pats? hmmmmmmmmmmmm......
