If that's the case, great. We can just get the best guys on the board at that time and trade accordingly. Tanny has shown on many occasions that he knows what he's doing.
You don't draft a K or FB. Even the TE - because we have Keller - we can acquire elsewhere, mayhaps even the practice squad. WR: we'll see if we need one; I doubt we will between Smith/Clowney/Wright we should be for another year or 2. S: I wouldn't consider much of a need. Again, we can look to the PS or FA if need be. This draft should be about the trenches and getting one more CB. Everything after that is gravy.
Is there really a post about the draft in oct and the team is 3-1?? Some folks arent fans of this team
If we picked a Bust in the 5th and an elite receiver in the 3rd I'd be ecstatic, that's pretty much what we did with the trade..
if all goes well and we end up with a pick in the 20s, it'd probably be best to trade down anyways. i can see us picking up a 2nd and 3rd, and we can draft de-ol-nt with our 2-3-4 picks.
We can easily trun our 1st into bunch of 3rd and 4th... Economically that makes sense too. We do have some players need new contracts. For DL/OL depth, we should be able to get them from 3rd / 4th rounds... and don't forget we seem very luck with 4th rounds.... Top of my head, we need an NT to take some load off Jenkins first... Give credit when it is due... how many holes we had at the end of last season,,, how many holes we have now? It's like magic.
The key is most of the trades were for guys entering their prime and what about the trades to move up in thedraft to draft better players like REvis, Harris and Keller. Sorry, this is not the Redskins, we are young except for the OL but did draft a OL this year and they like him
If the Jets could trade out of the 1st to pick up a mid 2nd and an early 3rd, it'd be perfect. 2) Vince Oghobaase/Boo Robinson 2) Demaryius Thomas/Mardy Gilyard 3) Jason Fox/Mike Johnson We replenish our lines and add a legit 3rd WR behind Cotch/Braylon. In terms of money, Jones won't be back, and I'm assuming we'd save a lot of money if we cut Faneca. It'll be tough, but they seem to believe that they can keep Revis/Mangold/Harris/Leon/Braylon long term.
we traded alot of picks but what wasnt mentioned is that we got YOUNG talent in return for those picks, so its a wash. we dealt to move up to get sanchez who is a rookie we traded for edwards who is 26 we traded for sheppard who is 28 these guys are all young players, not like we traded for joey porter or marvin harrison
Exactly! These articles drive me crazy and I've had the discussion many times in the draft board. If we could've come out of the 2010 draft with a starting, Pro Bowl caliber WR, a starting former Pro Bowl corner in rounds 3 through 5 who would complain? Yes it makes everyone feel warm and fuzzy when we get the training camp articles about the 6th round wide receiver who played at a small school and worked a job to help support his family and the mid-round safety who was a top recruit but battled injuries and you root for those guys to make an impact on special teams or at least the practice squad. But championships are won with guys who have talent and that's what we have done with our mid-round picks: acquire young, extremely talented players. I refuse to believe this is a bad thing.
Ditto. The darft is such a crap shoot. Even can't miss prospects miss terribly at times( Blair Thomas anyone?). At least when a guy is in the league a few years you can see what he does at the NFL level. If we've seen anything over the years it's that the cap has a lot of loop holes. With Tanny those loop holes are maximized to our advantage. You can always rework a contract and lessen the blow. I'm not saying the draft isn't important but it's not the ONLY way to build a good team.
Tanny def. has come up w/ a different approach in terms of player acquisition via draft/trade/free agency. Alot of people feel the safest way to ensure long term success is to stockpile draft picks...take a BPA selection approach and develop talent internally. The jets have gone down this road before and unfortunately havent seen alot of results(and they aren't alone). Instead...theyve used free agency as a means of acquiring top talent that fits the system(IE Scott,Faneca, Leonhard,Woody,Pace, etc), and have used UDFA's w/ upside(Wright,Westerman,Murrell,Cole) to basically replace the need for multiple late round picks. Additionally on draft day, they have taken an aggressive approach to ensure when they DO make a selection early that he is going to fit perfectly into the system, has good upside and can contribute immediately(W/ the exception of Gholston). This eliminates wasted money, wasted roster spots and ensure that the talent level is always quality and always fits the overall team concept. In a strange way, this aggressive approach is also a "Safe approach". Could it go completely wrong? Sure. But as long as the scouting dept,CS, and FO are all on the same page that a given player truly is the perfect match..it can be a highly successful concept.
