The big difference is your team HAS to play Ginn because you have no WR depth whereas we have very good depth at D End and can be stuck with Gholston riding the bench.

Here's what will happen if Gholston is really, REALLY, REEEEEALLY motivated:

he will move to his left, the play will go to his right, and six weeks later he will go to his right. Just like every play, every week. Because no matter how motivated he is, his reaction time is not unlike that of Stonehenge. Which, I believe, was built just after his last impact play.

Gholston's time to shine was the first 4 games this season..... not when Pace comes back. He just isn't getting it done.

I'm hoping for a miraculous turnaround, but sadly, this is the truth. I don't see why Pace being back is going to change anything other than drastically cutting Ghost's PT.

if gholston would juice up with some test he'd get more mean and ornery and then we'd see break out performance............ that's his problem, he doesn't have enough fire. he needs to think the ball carrier just pimped his mama to the kkk or something to get him pissed off. he needs to play angry.

Jesus Christ, are we reaching here or what?! We need to have the Ghost to have a mental flashback in order for him to play well? What he really needs is a lobotomy.

Plus, a rusty is a 1000X better than da Ghost

Gholston is dead to me. i never wanted him to begin with. as a michigan fan myself i gave him just the slightest bit of room to win me over and he hasnt done it. i give him one more year if not trade him for whatever we can get, he is taking up to much money. plus it looks like this westerman boy can become a stud for us.

if we dont move him i think we should beef him up and make him a DE. maybe we can replace ellis one day.

this is exhausting. I don't know, maybe its me, but it has looked to me like Vernon has been solid. Imagine if this year's #6 pick were doing what he's doing on the field? We'd be ecstatic. I actually think this may be his week t shine, not in a pass rushing mode, but in a run defending mode. I bet all those people lambasting Mount Vernon thought Gastineau was the best player on the field.

    +1

Vernon has not been nothing but solid these four weeks. Sure he's had a couple of mistakes, but everyone has them. Like Bart Scott said in his SNY interview, Vernon isn't a flashy player, but he is a solid contributor.

And it's not his fault he's making that much money, he didn't choose to be drafted that high.

Rex has a found a role for Gholston as a run stopper. Rex is building Gholston up from scratch and it's going to take time. One thing I know is that he's not going anywhere for a few more years so instead of complaining about him, try to look at the positives.

Complaining about him when the team is winning and he is doing well at what he is asked to do is retarded.

Well said. We lost our best OLB and Vernon stepped up and provided us with a solid 4 game performance. Was he an all-star? No. But he contributed and easily surpassed expectations.. and yet there's more bitching about him now than there was last year when he rode the bench.

While there has been improvement, Gholston is only barely average at best, so far. You can get the same talent in the 4th or 5th round.

You guys have got to be kidding me...

    VG has been "solid"?

    "Building from scratch?"

The freakin' guy was taken 6th overall for crying out loud and we need to build his ass from scratch?!?!

I guess his play has been solid...for a BACKUP, not a 1st rd pick!!!

Get your lips off his junk and call it like it is...HE HAS BEEN EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING

You can, but at this point it is what it is. Gholston is never going to be an elite pass rusher. It was a horrible pick and based on the fact that our front office has hit on Brick, Mangold, Leon, Smith/Smith, Revis, Harris, Stuckey, Keller, Sanchez and hopefully Greene something doesn't add up with Gholston. Was it Mangini demanding they take him? The jets front office has been right a lot more then they have been wrong.

My point is that Gholston is here to stay, whether we like it or not. The coaching staff knows that they have a very raw player who was out of position and poorly coached his first year in the NFL.

They found the one thing they knew would give him some confidence this season, stuffing the run. He did have a pressure against the Collins that forced an interception. That fact that he is on the field and Rex is still able to run his defense effectively means he is doing something right.

I would have loved to have drafted someone else, but it's done with now and we have to try and find positives with the guy. If he was really a liability then Rex would not let him on the field regardless of his contract.
