Edwards was out partying in March with suspended wide receiver Donte Stallworth the night Stallworth drove drunk and killed a pedestrian in Miami. Edwards was an irregular participant in Mangini’s offseason programs and missed part of mini-camp and training camp with an ankle injury he sustained while playing basketball. Before Mangini’s arrival, Edwards’ list of transgressions was growing nearly as fast as his stat sheet of 100-yard receiving games. He argued with teammates and criticized coaches. He chartered a helicopter in 2006 to attend the Ohio State-Michigan game despite being told not to go. He severely cut his heel while running in his socks after practice. Last year, he pleaded guilty to driving 120 mph. He’s gone. Not forgotten. As he headed out to practice, backup quarterback Brady Quinn pointed to his shiny orange cleats — a pair left behind by Edwards. “In honor of Braylon,” he said.
If I made $8mm a year and bored out of my mind in Cleveland, I'd be chartering helicopters too. Other than that, he drives too fast (who cares), plays other sports (you dont want a lazy WR), and hurt himself running (not walking at least) after practice. We need to cut this guy a break, at least until he drops the game winning TD to send us to the AFC Championship game.
His transgressions are so overblown, it's retarded. *Sources Say* A member of his posse hit some nobody that LeBron knows. He chartered a helicopter to see his alma mater play there rival. And people care why? Because TEAM CAPTAINS, not coaches, told him not to go, and he was a few minutes late to morning meeting. He got a speeding ticket. Are we seriously discussing that? He was partying with his TEAMMATE, who subsequently ended up driving drunk and killing somebody, AFTER he (Donte) had gone home. I'm still trying to figure out what the six degrees of seperation are between a guy killing somebody and a guy hanging out with his friend in a bar. Does that mean if you're at a bar and a guy who you never met, he leaves there and kills somebody, are you now implicated? He doesn't like off season workouts. He looks like a fat slob doesn't he. He argued with teammates and coaches. If I worked for the Browns, I'd probably take a gun to work after my first month on the job. I just don't get it.
I think the reason it is brought up is because if Edwards was there at the time Stallworth left, he should have stopped him from leaving, and driving home drunk. Granted that is not a legal obligation, especially if Edwards didnt know Stallworth was leaving, but it is the argument i believe...
I gotta say as much as I'd love for you guys to get stuck with a locker room cancer that is nothing but an on and off the field detractions, none of this sounds like a big deal at all. He probably just hated playing for the Browns would be my guess and thats why he didn't have a great attitude towards the end. All I know is I'm gonna be super pissed if this guy lights us up Monday. He's had big games down here before, although it was a against completely different personal but still.
I don't think you know the full details of the story. Stallworth was out with Edwards, drove home to his condo, THEN drove back out, claiming he was going to get breakfast, that's when he killed the dock worker going home from work. Even if Braylon drove him home, the idiot Stallworth still felt the need to get back in his car after he made it home, and head to breakfast still hammered.
I was questioning his past as well. But I watched the presser last night on Jets Open Mic on SNY and came away impressed with the man. He kept repeating that this is a new start for him, hinted at the aura of the Browns and the dark clouds there. He seemed genuine and with guys like Scott, Jenkins, Faneca, Cotchery and other solid vets to lead him to a better career, I think he will be fine. Ryan is a guy players say you just don't want to dissapoint.
Speeding? Attending his alma mater's rivalry game? Running in socks?! Does Roger Goodell know about this? I hope a suspension is pending. The league needs to send a message.
The running in socks incident was frightening to say the least. And going to see a football game? Suspend him now.
That's what I was thinking. You could fit Braylon Edwards' entire rap sheet within the first paragraph of Marshall's rap sheet. I'm not worried about off-the-field stuff wit hthis guy right now. I'm kind of worried about on-the-field stuff with him, though.
i also heard he doesnt check for ripeness efficiently in the produce section when he goes to the grocery store. and one time he left the top off a jar of peanut butter. what a cancer
Another thing to think about, Edwards WAS the face of Cleveland. We have Sanchez, Rex, Revis, Scott, Rhodes and Cotch. Edwards will NOT be the face of this franchise. That'll take a lot of heat off him.
I like the trade, and think it makes us a better team. Now, with that said, if we had drafted Edwards 3rd overall, and he had the same level of production and off-field transgressions that he has had with Cleveland, you would all be crucifying him. I would too. And we would be right to be doing it. I understand you want to try and minimize the bad about him, but there is a downside to Braylon Edwards, and you all blowing it off as if it's nothing doesn't MAKE it nothing. These are legitimate concerns. That doesn't mean he won't fly straight and work hard here with the Jets, but he has a history that has earned him his current reputation.
