It just seems that we are so close this year...to a superbowl appearance of course! We have a superbowl caliber defense and with braylon edwards our offense has certainly opened up. Hopefully less stacking of 8 in the box will open up our run game, and our offense has not looked terrible to start in my opinion. The run game has been lackluster due to the congestion but like I said now with an improved WR corps I think well be set on offense. BUT, there is one thing. THE ROOKIE QB. Goddamn it makes me cringe when I think of it. I know its only week 5 but the way we look right now, does anyone really think this is an 8-8 or even 9-7 team? I really think we are at least 11-5 this year, at least. I cant help but think, imagine if we had a veteran quarterback under center right now. It is practical too, ANYONE could have had Jeff Garcia this season, for example. Imagine that. I honestly believe we would be top contenders for a superbowl appearance this year with Jeff Garcia under center. A sound qb whos going to protect the ball and just have that veteran knowledge. I really think the chances of us making a superbowl appearance rests on the shoulders of sanchez. I understand were thinking about a franchise and a future, but with this team and this coaching staff we have right now, this year, you cant help but think, "Damn what if we had a veteran qb." Lets see what sanchez does, im pulling for him all the way.
my god that would be a hell of a game. Once again though, I cant get the picture out of my head of the ravens defense absolutely raping sanchez. By raping of course I mean rushing and panicking sanchez, forcing him to make those rookie mistakes we saw last week. I really hope the kid can pull through though, I think hes got the brains, we just have to see if it translates in a playoff atmosphere.
HAHA! I have faith, i have faith....but goddamn I would feel so much better with jeff garcia or (insert stable veteran qb here) under center. Hell I might even buy a superbowl ticket even though itd be against my better instinct as a jet fan. But Im hopeful for sanchez i think hes smart im behind him all the way.
Yup! Theres a reason Garcia wasnt signed by anyone sans for the week in Philly. You cant live in the past.
he wouldnt have fumbled the ball in the end zone for a touchdown essentially putting us out of the game. Dont get me wrong ive already said it a million times in this thread, Im behind sanchez all the way, i think hell be a great qb in years to come. But when you have a team like we do now, i wish we could strike while the iron is hot, we could have it this year....who says we have to wait! Obviously its too late now so lets see what sanchez has got, baptism by fire.
11-5?, i'm confident we'll go 13-3. we'll lose to probably the patriots and colts. we'll see the ravens in the afc championship game, and sanchez will get his revenge on that ravens D, taking us to the superbowl against the saints, and he'll again get revenge on that D. history in the making. call me optimistic, but i believe this year. knock on wood no one gets injured.
yea i think 13-3 is definitely possible. nothing wrong with optimism, i cant help but be overwhelmed by it ever since rex ryan has taken over. havent felt like this about the jets since parcells, and im confident rex ryan isnt gonna tantalize us like parcells did, were gonna win at least one superbowl under the rex ryan regime no doubt. this is just a fun team to watch.
I think we have a good/great shot to get to the playoffs...after that its a crapshoot, and weve got a shot...starting to wish i placed a larger bet though when i was in vegas!
Sanchez has to have his rookie year at some point and he's going to be here for a long time. We're much better off with him on the field now. He had one bad game, but he's shown nothing but poise. I ain't worrying at this point. Jeff Garcia... NO thank you.
thats taking it a bit out of context. I was afraid of jeff garcia being the focal point here because hes not, i was just illustrating the idea of having a veteran quaterback under center. but if you were to ask me the question, who will give the jets a better chance of winning the superbowl, mark sanchez or a veteran qb, and ill be so bold to say jeff garcia, id have to say garcia. sanchez is going to take all season to adjust to the speed of the game, hes clearly not there yet and its not right to expect him to be yet. I will state for the final time that I fully support and believe in sanchez, hell, I believe its possible for him to take us to the superbowl, but my point is this: When I evaluate this teams super bowl potential right now, at this very moment, the aspect that makes me cringe the most is our rookie qb. i think thats a reasonable thing to say. I was all for starting sanchez in the beginning of the season, but I never saw the jets looking this good. I never thought wed be quite where we are right now, and in hindsight, if i knew we were going to be this good this year, i would strike while the irons hot and went with a veteran for just one year. hindsight is 20/20 of course though, so lets see what sanchez has got, im all for the kid.
^ its not like this is going to be one anomaly year and then go back to mediocrity. this team is set to contend for years. As long as the trenches get healthier.
agreed, definitely. thats the advantage to having sanchez start this year and get all this rookie shit out of the way,im just so anxious watching this team. we look so legitimate its scary.
It's short term thinking like this that leads to 40 years without a Super Bowl. This team is going to be very good for years to come. What do the Jets gain by repeatedly bringing in somebody else's 40 year old trash QB??????
i cant say i disagree with you, but can you not admit that the idea of having a veteran qb whos adept to the speed of the game (not garcia apparently hes worse than i thought according to other posts, which i will trust as i have not really followed him recently) is tempting? Im in no way suggesting we should do this now mid season, but its just an interesting thought in hindsight. All in all, the season rides on sanchez. If this guy can play NOT like a rookie, we have as good as a shot as anyone else.
wow, ill illustrate my point one last time, perhaps in the most simple way possible for you: Afc championship game vs baltimore this year, who do you feel more confident with, sanchez, or a seasoned veteran, perhaps jeff garcia. Apparently he is worse than i suspected but regardless, jeff garcia is not the fucking issue here, to be honest, im more confident in garcia knowing the pace of the game, managing the game, and not turning the ball over. Im saying plain and simple, I think our biggest and perhaps only major weakness, is our rookie qb right now. If it werent for him, id be fully confident that we could get to the super bowl. i still have faith in sanchez, i still think he can pull it off too, but the only thing thats keeping me awake at night is the rookie.
