A package with Washington, Edwards, Cotchery, and Keller has 4 elite pass-catching options. This is fucking stellar. And it's my birthday. Thank you Mangini.
I've been thinking a lot about the trade, and if all Edwards needed was a change of scenery to live up to his potential, then we are in excellent shape. Cotchery and Edwards make an awesome 1-2 punch. I just remain a bit weary about Edwards. I still remember a piece that ESPN did on him while he was with Michigan. The story was about how many people in Michigan thought he wasn't worthy to wear the number 1 jersey, which is like sacred to Michigan WRs. They questioned his work ethic and devotion to the game. These questions have followed him throughout his playing career. However, until he shows that he will be that type of player here in NY, I will just hope for the best and assume he'll live up to his huge potential. And if he does, this offense will have taken a HUGE evolutionary leap, and Sanchez will go to the pro-bowl throwing to Cotch and Braylon.
He addressed a lot of my concerns which were pretty similar to yours in his press conference a second ago. :jets:
You realize that this literally makes zero sense and serves only to reinforce the sentiment expressed below, right?
I've always been nervous of the diva WRs and 'troublemaker' types. So I've not been a fan of bringing in Edwards. However, he did pretty good job in the press conference. He certainly said the right things. He is happy to be here. He talked about being more mature now and owning up to making mistakes. He talked about fitting in to the system. I'm now cautiously optimistic.
Ok I want to apologize for "hating" the trade. I was kinda shocked and over anxious. But any way I feel a little better. Now I simply dislike the trade. Now my reason for disliking the trade is this, Edwards is highly inconsistent and even in a contract year he does not seem to be putting extra effort. Also I like Stuckey I liked what he did and he had good chemistry with Sanchez, for what he was I really liked Stuckey as a number 2 option. Keep in mind this why I hated the deal initially but now the reason I now only dislike it is for the following reasons. Edwards is a bigger faster target and even if he sucks he will still get respect. Thus either freeing Cotchery and Keller or the run game. In addition, with me being generally an optimist, I think a change of scenery could be great getting away from the Mangini baby's. Ultimately a lot of my hope is based on potential, but I am still hesitant to say it is great, and frankly since I know factually what we gave up Im still more against the trade than for it but he is on our team and I want to see him succeed.
If this deal reminds me of anything, it's the Vince Carter deal. Highly talented, highly unmotivated player getting a change of scenery.
bigmehl, I was actually thinking Chambers but he actually played decent/average the year of the trade. He's been pretty underwhelming since, though.
