It's going to mean more of Dustin Keller in the slot which I think is a good thing. Stuckey could become a solid slot receiver but he's very replaceable.

IMO stuckey was not a good receiver. Edwards has to be a huge upgrade. Now we get to see what Clowney can do in a 'real' NFL game.

I think this will happen too.

Edwards creates more reason to run the offense out of a base set of Edwards, Cotchery, Keller, Jones/Washington, Richardson, and Smith in Richardson's place in situations that call for it, like 3rd and long...

maybe we'll see some W. Wright in the slot? He was the most similar player to Stuckey we had...

The impact of losing Stuckey would be equivalent to us losing Gholston.

    That is all.

I liked Stuckey also but the fact is we need what Edwards brings to the table more then we need what Stuckey brought.
Stuckey doesn't scare opposing teams and draw the double teams that will allow Cotchery a Pro-Bowl apprearence.

Two plays from Sunday helped bring this about.

On two plays the refs let Gay absolutely mug Stuckey. 3rd and short late and on one of Mark's picks in Jets territory.

It will be harder to mug Edwards without a call, also He's a little bigger...

    Current WR options:

    X: Cotchery
    TE: Keller
    Slot: Smith/Wright/Clowney
    Z: Edwards

I think we'll be alright here.

I think they should throw Leon out wide on some of these plays...

Smith can play the slot and do everything stuck did....slot screens dump offs making people miss in the open field. Smith is a great athlete just not a good receiver but I think he can make things happen

It looked like Stuckey was in the slot for the 3 WR sets while Smith split out to the Z position to take the deeper routes and let Stuckey work underneath. If Smith is the one taking over Stuckey's slot work than I think we'll probably even out with dropped balls, and most likely have better production out of the screens and check downs.

Smith isn't as fast as Stuckey but he's stronger and bigger. We could also wind up running the ball out of more 3 WR sets or could possibly see Smith with a greater role in blocking on screen plays.

As for the other WRs on the roster, I think someone posted in another thread that Wright is going to get more looks as the slot guy thanks to his early chemistry with Sanchez in training camp and the preseason.

I agree completely. I still don't think Leon has gotten enough looks lined up in the slot or split out.
