But hasn't that been Jets modus operatidi (sic) in recent years, especially on draft day. They trade draft picks to move up and end up not having many picks. Honestly...I'm on the fence with this. Edwards has great potential, but he's sort of T.O-lite. He makes plays, but drops lots of passes. I think for the Browns, it'a addition by subtraction, as it was with Kellen Winslow. They both yak alot, causing trouble in the lockerroom, and producing little on the field. This is a great opportunity for Braylon. He's a well-spoken, nice-looking guy, who if he plays it right, can generate a huge income off the field.

I said it in another thread but we spent our 3rd, 4th and 5th round pick for our starting wide receiver and a starting cornerback. I doubt many other teams could say they got that kind of production out of their midround picks.
It is officially a 3rd and 5th round pick in 2010 draft. So as said above we will probably have our 1st, 2nd, and 4th round picks, I'm just verry happy to have 1st and 2nd and we usually get gems in the 4th. And just like MrE said, players WANT to play for Rex and this young upcoming team. (edwards is only 26)
^^ we have a pretty youthfu core offensively, we sign some FA on both sides of the ball , and still have a 1, 2, and 4 in the draft.....so if all things go well....our first rounder may be somewhere in the 20s....trade down for an early-mid second round pick, adding some extra picks in the process in other rounds...i'd like us to go DE-OT-NTdepth with our first 3 picks, respectively. There's your depth.
The Draft is a crap shoot. You are making the huge assumption that those picks would work out for the Jets, and you simply can't use that as a basis to not pull the trigger on a talent like Edwards.
Not to mention the difference coaching makes. I trust Ryan to get the most out of late round picks and UDFA's, and often times a player might be able to contribute more than a mid round pick.
Since we traded our 5th for Edwards does that mean if Sheppard goes for a 5th it will be elevated to our 4th?
the 5th was from this past years draft, in 09. we already gave that to philly. the conditional was for the 2010 draft, and if he doesn't make the 85% marker, i'm pretty sure we don't give up any conditional pick.

Anytime you are able to get an established player, especially a #1 WR, over mid round draft picks, you take the deal and run. It's quite clear Mangini had given up on B.E. and he would never re-up with Cleveland at the end of year. Mangini got some draft picks that may not amount to much and a couple of JAG players. I love Stuckey be he's expendable now and Trusnik is replaced with no problem, especially depth with Westermann. As much as I love the draft and want to have as many picks possible, you don't pass on this deal. This really trade really helps the Jets concentrate on the Lines in Rd 1 & 2....DE/DT & RT.
Are you guys fucking kidding me!? What are the odds Tanny uses a 10 million dollars option on Sheppard!? He will let him hit FA, sign him for about 3 mill and keep the second pick. That pick only kicks in IF we use the 10 mill option... We pulled a Vilma on the Eagles...
I don't think there's a wide receiver as good as Braylon in this draft. He's 6'3" 215lbs and he runs a 4.4. He also has a great vertical. He can pretty much do anything as long as he holds onto the ball (which should develop now that he's willing to prepare for games). I'll take him over Bryant (maybe), Benn, and Williams. 3rd and 5th round draft picks for Braylon is a great deal.
