Screw it. I can't post in most of the threads addressing the things I want to discuss because they're just cesspools. Sure, I know this one will become one too, but whatever. I'm posting here, and I'll argue here, rather than have to follow 28 threads worth of crap. In no particular order: The defense. Let's give some damn credit where due people. Nitpicking on players in a unit that shut down one of (if not THE) best offenses in the NFL right now is mostly ridiculous. That said, I'm a Gholston fan, but yesterday was a bad day for him. I'm really hoping that with Pace back Rex and Mike just make the final decision to put him on the end of the line and let him be a DE. He's great at taking up blockers and collpasing the pocket. He's not getting better at reacting to players who get past the LOS. Derelle Revis is the truth. That is all. Rhodes played pretty well. He even made a really nice hit at one point. How'd you like that Abyzmul? :smile: Not a bad job at all by the secondary yesterday, considering our CB situation. Special teams. Overall, pretty good. 9 yard punts that turn into 30 thanks to penalties don't make me happy though. I'd also like to see Leonhard get a better head on his shoulders for where the tacklers are when the ball gets to him. He fair catches like Santana Moss. I love Feely, but I'd really like him to work on getting another second of hang time on his kickoffs. The refs sucked and didn't at the same time. There were calls they missed on both sides, so I don't hold too much against them today. EXCEPT the facemask on Sanchez. To begin with I was already pissed off about the one on Leon last week not being called, but this week's just burned me up. This league is supposed to be protecting the QB. That play was bad. Sanchez's head was turned around, and he was bent over at the hip. There's no way that could have been missed by anyone with any vision whatsoever. If that were Tom Brady they would have stopped the game, flew Goodell in immediately, suspended the entire Saints team, and rewarded the Pats with a win. Yes, that's an exaggeration, but seriously, that was a terrible missed call, for the sole reason that it could have seriously hurt the player. (And there was a missed horsecollar by one of the Jets yesterday that wasn't called and should have been, so I'm not just being biased. Injury penalties are important in this sport.) The offense. Wow, it was offensive alright. Sanchez had a bad game. The kid has to learn what to do with a football under pressure. Protect it when you're running and throw it out of bounds when you're on the run Mark. Rookie mistakes. I'm okay with that. Not a good game, but the key is to learn. I'm glad he now has so much film to review to know what not to do. With very winnable games coming up, I expect he'll mature a lot the next couple months. The OLine was embarassing. I can understand having a rough time with 8, but when they rush 4 you have to block. Our 4 "ones" played like 1 "four" yesterday. Kudos to the Saints D though. They played a great game. I've been a Thomas Jones fan, and fought in favor of him, but I won't for yesterday. The guy refuses to stay on his feet when contact is made. The whole dancing thing is what it is. The guy pretends to be a power back, but wants desperately to be a finesse back. One or the other TJ, you're not both. Why wasn't Leon in more for early downs? Why wasn't Greene on the field earlier? Schottenheimer gets a lot of love from me, but not for yesterday. He did not call a very good game. Sure, we were hurt by some poor execution, but refusing to adjust to TJ's lack of yardage and repeating the mistake is unacceptable when you have multiple options at the position. The lack of getting the run game moving well hurt Sanchez, and while the line is very responsible, poor decision making contributed. And why wasn't Schotty in Sanchez's ear all afternoon? Every time I saw him, Sanchez was sitting alone on the bench. Why isn't he reviewing photos with coaches like every other QB in the NFL? I saw people complaining about Clowney not getting any time. I know for absolute certain he was in on at least one play. Sanchez never even glanced at that side of the field. He looked Cotchery the whole way. I can't remember how the play worked out, but without having paid attention to how much Clowney was in, maybe the problem isn't Clowney so much as it is Sanchez not looking. We need a real receiving threat. Keller has been mostly silent the past couple weeks. Cotchery is a great #2, maybe even a 1.5, but he's not a 1, and there's no substantial other threat to help. So what it comes down to are 3 things: 1) Our D can play with anybody. It's playoff, and dare I say Super Bowl, caliber. 2) Our offense has few weapons, and those aren't being utilized properly. 3) The Saints are good. Really freaking good. Adam Shefter tweeted that Berman said the Manning teams are the best in the sport. Eli's G-men, Peyton's Colts, and Archie's Saints.
The Sanchez non-call for a facemask was kind of close, it annoyed me but as far as 'protecting the QB', I think our D has gotten away with a ton of instances where they could have thrown a Roughing The Passer call. I'll take that trade as long as MS's helmet isn't on backwards after the play. I can't say enough good things about the defense. That goal line stand was a thing of beauty. I don't think I've ever seen something that impressive from a Jets defense since the 80s.
Is this the place where I can discuss Leon jumping 6 feet into the air and knocking into the defender before the play (PR?) was ruled dead? All of it of course about 3 feet in front of the official.
Defense was amazing, limiting Brees, running game pretty much non-existent cept for Greene, can't expect Sanchez to lead us to victory on the O side every week, first 3 weeks hes had timely TDs and great throws, as nice as it would be to lean on Sanchez we can't yet, I think he will defintely bounce back next week
Haha, I didn't think he was too terrible, but I've never really been a fan of Dierdorf. My favorite announcer team for the Jets is Gumble and Simms. As I said, calls got missed both ways. I'm not blind enough to believe the Jets just got the screw job. I really don't like facemask non-calls though. Same for horsecollars. Actions that can result in serious injury should always be called, even close ones where you could say "Eh, I don't think so." I'm all for football players acting like men and being willing to put their bodies on the line, but I want injuries that are avoidable because of borderline dirty play to be as controlled as possible. That goal line stand was awesome. Honestly, half of me was thinking "There's no way they keep them out." Then there was a voice inside me that said "No way. They're not getting in!" This defense is a thing of beauty. Are you implying that I'm saying we were treated unfairly? Absolutely. Now he has film that really spotlights his "Things to Work On." Given the teams we have coming up, I'm confident that he'll bounce back and play very well for the next month and beyond.
I'm implying that I liked his moxie and didn't have anywhere else to note such. Play wasn't dead yet, but that was probably a "gimme" from the refs.
Oh, okay. I wasn't sure if you were poking at me. In that case, feel free to discuss. As you've obviously figured out, this thread was simply meant as a non-Bunker bunker for the main forum. Try to post about the game intelligently and such. I don't actually recall the play you're talking about, but I like how Leon plays. He's a little guy, but he plays above his size. He's got a lot of talent, and his attitude definitely makes him a better football player. Now if Schotty would just use him a little more often...
He begin the broadcast by introducing Dwight Lowery as Mike Lowery. U know, the same Lowery from Bad Boys and Bad Boys II? He also fucked up a lot of obvious calls ("As the Saints defense get ready to run this play..."--while the Saints offense was on the field). In the last 2 games against the Patriots and Titans, he was fellating both teams on numerous plays. Whenever we got a play off, he considered us "lucky" and...aah, there have been just so many things. He's pretty fucking terrible. I feel like I'm watching the opponents teams local stations. Yesterday he wasn't AS bad. But still painful to listen to. I actually like Gumble and Simms too. I think I'm gonna begin a "Cut Dierdorf" movement.
Other than your Gholston stance, really good post! Since this is your thread, I will not rehash my thoughts on Gholston, but will instead focus on the secondary. A shame we lost, because if we won, I think they would have been the story. Down 2 guys, including a starter, and to shut down Brees was fantastic. Hell, Coleman, who, when I saw him on Colston I said "WHAT THE FUCK" and yes, he did get burned on one play, I thought did a pretty decent job. The made me feel good to know that our secondary could step up when guys go down.
My second favorite is Nantz and Simms. I also like Ian Eagle, but he always gets teamed with guys I can't stand.
Feel free to talk Gholston if you want. Pettine thinks he's made progress. I think he's made progress. I understand people feel like he hasn't, and yesterday was a blow to my argument. I still think Gholston would make a great DE, even in the 3-4. I see that becoming more of his role going forward now that Pace is back.
On the subject of announcers, it was funny how Gumbel called Drew Brees, "Drees" on several occasions yesterday.

Good point we have been very close to roughing the passer calls, particularly in the NE game. There were a few two step hits Brady took after the ball was clearly away. We have to be careful, what we do can be done to us.....
Short notes: I can't wait to see Pace in next week. I almost wanted to throw up when Sanchez dropped back in the end zone. Love Jenkins giving Sanchez the pep talk, I could see the kid was losing confidence..fast. I am totally in love with this Defense. <3
