This was a weakness all through training camp and we did not address it. WRs other than Cotchery had 12 yards today. We should have really done more to get Braylon or Brandon Marshall.
What would you have given up, David Harris? The WRs ARE hurting us but based on what we've seen that those teams are looking for, the Jets don't really have a lot of options right now. This is something that'll need to be addressed next season.
Smith RAN well today. We didn't throw enough to Keller. WE KNOW we're weaker at WR than some other teams, but they'll improve. The season is only 25% in.
That's what I wonder about as well. It's impossible to see on TV, but are defenses doing anything to him that would prevent him from getting open? The guy should create mismatches all over the field but we just don't use him. You trade up into the first round to get the guy and don't use him nearly enough to justify the pick. Again, I don't know if defenses are keying on him more because of our WR threat after Cotch...
It's certainly one position that needs to be upgraded in the offseason but, not much you can do about it now. No sense talking about Crabtree, Edwards or Marshall. Those guys all (except for Crabtree) play for other teams.
This is my thinking too.. We have Cotch who is definately a good WR but we don't have any real threats after him and Keller. Stucky is decent but he's more of a 3. Clowny is Mr Preseason...start calling him Stevie Anderson (the old guys will remember him). I don't think it's a killing issue but if our running game doesn't get going it will be.
If, after watching that game, you think the problem was the WR's, it is time to buy a new TV or go to the eye doctor. After the first pick 6, I don't think Sanchez threw anything more than a 5 yard slant all game until the Jets were down by 14. It's hard to judge the wideouts when the Saints have 8 in the box all day, the OL didn't give Sanchez time, and the Jets threw nothing but slants all game. This is what happpens when you have a rookie QB. We all knew there would be games like this. Better it happens on the road against a good team than at home against a team the Jets should beat, like Buffalo. This game came down to the 14 points scored by the Saints defense in the 2nd quarter, not the WRs. Were there passes dropped? Interceptions that should have been broken up? Unless you were at the game, you can't tell if nobody was able to get open. Then again, the play calling did not even give Sanchez or the wideouts much a chance to get touches today.
The dropped pass by Brad Smith on our first possession was a killer. Stuckey also had some big drops on 3rd downs I believe. If you think the WR play was acceptable today (outside of Cotch), then you don't know a thing about football.
Outside of THomas Jones, Stuckey has been the biggest disappointment through 4 games. The kid MAYBE would be ok at #3 but the guy is not a starting WR in this league.
Horrible post. The receivers other than Cotch had very little effictiveness because 1) The pass blocking was not good today and 2) Sanchez did not have a very good game. I would not trade David Haris for Brandon Marshall. Would you have? No way would I give up a first rounder + for Edwards. Whould you? Answer those questions please.
GOOD THREAD!!!...this is our biggest problem!!!...we need a playmaking receiver...cotchery and keller are our only legit targets...stuckey is a slot guy and b smith and clowney arent legit receivers lets be honest
He's a slot receiver, and a very good one at that. He's out of place when he's split out wide. We really needed Clowney to step up this season and allow Stuckey to move inside again, but it didn't happen. Tough luck, and I'd expect WR to be our primary focus this offseason.
Maybe Braylon or Brandon will not be franchised by their team (they're both FAs after this year right?)
STCUCKEY trash unless in slot im tired seeing quick pass at line scrimmage to that is only time he catches.. we need pick up a wideout asap OR our rbs will have no shine cuz teams will stack 8 in box an know cotch is only option so this will prevent us from running dont blame our rbs its not there fault its shotty an wr's stucky is OK at beast B smith good for a run but cant catch clowney they dont put em on field why i dont know...an w.wright only plays special teams pick up a wr please matt jones i dont care if he is sniffing coke cuz what we have is not enough an that was a reality check. great game by the D tho
