I remember the Toon saga, I think. When you go to them the games they all kinda blend into one. If my memory serves me....They played New Orleans at the Meadowlands and Toon had two spectacular TD's in the first half and was looking like the best receiver in the league. The following week they played Pittsburgh at the Meadowlands. Toon caught a ball over the middle and was sandwiched. The first guy hit him from behind and sped him up into the second guy who nailed him right in the helmet.....and Toon was never the same. Somebody correct me if I have it wrong.
Six seasons? It doesn't count to me if he isn't healthy or starting. Scratch off 2001, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007, and the shit he did with the Dolphins because I don't care about what he did there. And post 2002-Chad isn't the same as 2002 Chad. Two different quarterbacks IMO, unfortunately.
Hang on. I didn't put it on Chad that Coles and Chrebet got concussions. I said because they got concussions, Chad was more accurate. If Coles and Chrebet don't jump for as many balls, Chad throws a lot less completions over his career, and probably significantly more INTs. They laid themselves out, and Chad benefitted from it. (Full disclosure: I do reserve blame for Chad in regard to Coles' and Chrebet's concussions, but that isn't the topic I was discussing, nor the point I was trying to make there. This isn't meant to point fingers, just to dispute that Chad was as good as people are making him out to be, due solely to the stat that he's the most accurate passer in history.)
If I am remembering that game correctly. One of the Steelers players did a one two three type wrestling count on the ground as Toon laid motionless after that concussion.
Toon would have been killed with any QB. He went after balls that just had no business being cought and cought them. Toon was a freakish talent and that's the reason he was great and why he got killed. I agree with your point though. The NFL guys get hit and hurt catching balls from guys with shot guns and guys with pee shooters. Many WR get creamed by big throws down field where a safety and a DB come together on the WR.
Chad was a good egg who deserved to be treated better than he was during the Mangini regime. Unfortunately, Mangini had all of BB's notes on Chad and his weaknesses stuck out like a sore thumb to him. If Mangini stayed, there's a good chance our starter would be Brett Ratliff right now and we gave away Chad for NOTHING( also on Mike T's hands, how do you not get a draft pick?). I read an article recently where he praised the Fins for being an upfront and truthful organization( clearly a swipe at Mike T). He knew this was his last chance as a starter. I think historically he grades out as his generations Chris Chandler(nickname Chrystal Chandelier).
