Hate the way everyone loved him at one point, and now they all toss him aside like a piece of garbage. He tried, he had heart, his arm was just not enough.
Thank you for 2002! I wish we could have seen what was possible , if Brien didn't miss those field goals. I wish you well!! Chad Pennington: Formally known as the "Franchise" Bet no one remembers that!
Things that Chad Pennington and Wayne Chrebet have in common: Both former NY Jets Both played with more heart than ability Both suffered multiple serious repeat injuries that ruined their careers Both adored by a fanbase used to losing Both made the NY Jets better by not being a part of the roster anymore Good luck as coach Chad. Don't follow Mangini's example.
That's true, and we would have played in New England on the day of a blizzard. Not a snowstorm, a blizzard. However, let's not also forget that outside of the missed FG's, Chad led the Jets to three points that day in Pittsburgh. The other 14 were on a punt return and a pick 6.
gotta say i was sad to see him go down. i warned all my friends that are phins fans that it was an odd number year and this would happen. i almost feel partly responsible. i wish chad the best in his recovery and his future endeavors, hopefully as a talented and respect coach in the NFL, which is where he belongs.
He really was a class act all the through every insulting process he was put through. Too bad they can't give him a bionic arm or something- I picked up some beer/smokes on the way to the game last week and the cashier said she was Chad's cousin. I do believe her for 2 reasons: 1. She looked exactly like him 2. She tried tossing me my smokes and came up very short.
2002 was an exciting year.......... most us thought they've finally found their "franchise" QB........ then :shit: Thanks Chad.
The guy is only out for the season people, he's not fucking dead. He will return next year, or move on to work on his charities or become an ESPN analyst or some other shit. Truly hope he stays away from the Jets coaching staff for the foreseeable future. Chad, it's been real. And it was great. But it wasn't REAL great.
The players that have more heart that ability always seem to get hurt. Seems like they truly sacrifice their bodies for the game or they wouldn't be able to compete
I think we have real short memories. It sucked to watch Chad go down like that again. Hope he recovers and returns, but it's doubtful. The effin Giants Preseason game from 2003 really wound up ruining what would have been a real promising career. He had his moments.
The idea that they were smart and had heart and lacked talent and that's why it sucks they got hurt is nuts. Great players with talent and heart go down all the time in the NFL. The idea that Chrebet and Chad were not big time athletes with great talent is also a myth. Namath and Toon probably the two most talented players to ever wear the Jersey had more talent and as much heart as Pennington and Chrebet. Namath was in pain ever day he suited up and Toon worked as hard at his kraft and was as smart as any WR we ever had. Pennington and Chrebet were not a product of heart alone, they had great natural ability or they would have never been in the NFL.
Chad is a class act and one of the best QBs to wear green. As someone who has had similar shoulder issues, I'm surprised he was able to come back from his injury to begin with. In fact, I am amazed that Brees never had anymore shoulder issues after his surgery. Best of luck Chad. If you dont come back one last time I think we may have a job for you here next year on the coaching staff.
I said it a million times to a million different people. That Steeler game was all on Herm Fucking Edwards and no one else, not even Doug Brien. Classic example of playing NOT TO WIN. And what made it saddest of all is that Marty Schottenheimer did the same exact fucking thing the week before, settling for a 45-yard FG with a rookie kicker in OT. Only this time it was numbnuts Edwards playing for a 40 yard plus FG---in Pittsburgh----on a wet field---swirling winds---while we were gashing Pitts D with Martin (who almost never fumbles) getting about 6 a carry at that point of the game and Chad throwing 7 yard screens. There was no excuse for the SHITTY, ATROCIOUS COACHING in that spot. He should have been fired the next day. BTW, Chad was a very classy player who's (I'm 32) provided me with some of my favorite moments as a Jets fan. So, to those who bash him--what the fuck? The guy never won a SB, but would rather take a spiked bat to his groin area then miss a play, and you have to repsect that.
Pennington is the Jets version of Tino Martinez with Yankee fans. Great player, extremely classy, gave everything they had to the team, and great memories however it was time for them to go and I'm not sure fans will ever truly get over them.
I will always have nothing but good memories when Chad wore a Jet uniform. The Pitt game was very unfortunate and not Chad's doing. The 2002 Indy rout was one of the many highlites if only for the fact that he out dueled a great QB. Best of luck to you, Chad.
When PEOPLE type like THIS and voice opinions I DISAGREE with, it makes me HATE the subject matter even MORE than previously before. FUCK Chad Pennington. He DESERVES and is ENTITLED to NOTHING.
