Although he is a Dolphin, I hate to see him get injured and be out for the year. Pennington will always be one of my favorite Jets because of his tenacity and toughness. Although he was never blessed with the great arm he fought through that adversity and became a very good NFL quarterback. Pennington will always have his critics because of his weak arm but nobody can question his leadership and toughness. I hope he recovers from this and plays in the NFL once again but I have my doubts that he will be able to. That being said, he will make a great QB coach (and maybe more) sometime in the future and I look forward to seeing him wear Jets green again sometime in the near future.
Well he will retire with the QB accuracy record. In my mind he was a over thinker and always went for the safe short pass out of lack for arm strengt. He put many receivers at risk with those short floaters of his. Maybe coaching is better for him since he is the brain.
I was always a fan of Pennington, even though I did call for his benching his last season with the Jets. Pennington was always a total professional, and had a few seasons with the jets that had us as fans very excited, capped off by the 2004 season in which he played wonderfully. To me, watching football isn't all about winning the Super Bowl, it's about excitement, and C had Pennington provided many exciting moments as a Jet, and then gave Dolphins fans the same feeling last year. If his career is truly over, and it looks as though it is, he will end his playing days as the most accurate passer in NFL history, and not all of that was due to short passing, as he was also the most accurate passer with throws over 20 yards one season (I cannot remember which season that was). Agreed. Pennington always left it all on the field. The guy is the prototypical team player. I wish him well.
Totally agree... I wish Pennington all the best and I'm sure, if he wants to, he could become a good coach in this league.
Sorry to see it happen but I said he never has 2 good years in a row and I am glad it hurts the Dolphins. Don't feel to bad, he's very rich, its not like he's paralyzed or something. We have to go to work every day and try to make a living, he's set for life. Sorry, the pitty meter is set for people that are hurting for the basics
This isn't true. When he came back from injury in 2003 he played very well. Then was outstanding in 2004 until the first shoulder injury. It was the shoulder injuries that held him back. It's truly sad to see that he was never able to stay healthy.

Yep, totally agree. I was at the 2003 playoff game against the Colts. That is easily the most dominant the Jets have ever looked since I've been following them. I truly thought that we were going to win the Super Bowl after that game and that Chad was going to be the next Joe Montana. Then, the Raiders totally exposed Chad's weaknesses and he never seemed to fully regain his mojo from that season.
I had trouble hating the Dolphins as much as I like to hate them with Pennington playing. Now at least my Dolphin hatred is back to full strength. Having no idea what a shoulder capsule actually is it is hard for me to figure if Chad will try a come back or not. He is a talented QB that could help out a number of teams in this league. Without him last year Miami would have been more like 4-12 instead of 11-5. If he can rehab his shoulder then I would expect him to at least attempt a come back. If not I'm sure he will get into coaching. Maybe just at the high school level like his father, or maybe higher.
Bingo, at first, we thought we had a franchise QB but he turned out to be another Jet dissapointment. God, you people talk like he won us a Super bowl. So what, he was a nice guy, he sucked in the end.
With ya here. Chad was (is) a class act. There was no quit in the guy. He may have been one of the smartest QB's to ever play the game. He needed that to overcome his physique (somewhat lack thereof). It is not really his fault that he wound up playing for the Fins. He was dealt a fairly bad egg by the Jets, but it was time to part company. I give him an immense amount of credit; he and the Fins won the division last year. Quite an accomplishment. He was somebody you could always count on to give it his all and he could be the face of a franchise without fear of him getting mixed up in stupidity. Some of his commercials were a bit gay, though. Yes, his career is probably over. He can always say he played the game and won some huge playoff games.
Horrendous. How can say such a thing. How many other quarterbacks in franchise history took us to the playoffs 3 times? ('02, '04, '06). Aaahhh '02. I can still remember screaming like a maniac in the stands spilling spiked hot chocolate all over everyone while watching Peyton get shut down. I get chills thinking about it.... And if it wasn't for Doug "Laces out" O'Brien, we would have been to the AFC Championship game in '04. Still - another awesome season. Thanks Chad and Godspeed.
Wow, pretty cold. To each his own. I don't think his career was lame; just his arm at times. Did he frustrate me at times; sure, but he was a class act and he did try his hardest. Ryan Leaf on the other hand - that's friggin' lame.
2002 was the best year of my jets life, i never heard threading the needle so much in my life, that was pure. and that sloppy run to the endozone that one game where he did that wierd juke fake thing, ugly, but it was awseome, and the way he would hide the ball on a fake then put his back completely to the oncomoing rushers an walk like he was window shopping, SUICIDE! but it worked and it was all planning and brain, thats what made chad pennington great. plus that day at the meadowland vs the packers, best football day in my life. you other guys on here act like getting hurt was his fault. if he hadnt gotten hurt what then?
