Exactly, which is why any criticism of Jones should be directed to the line and the coaching staff. We've seen ONE run outside all year from TJ, and very few inside handoffs (except on trap plays) from Leon. They're different backs, and the coaching staff tries to accentuate that
Yeah, Ill wait a few more games before I start calling for his head. The Titans are one of the best at run defense, I didnt expect a big day out of either guy. Without that holding call we would of put up over 100 yards.
I want to see a few more of those quick hand offs to Richardson. They seem to often work for us for a good gain.
it's not the run styles i'm comparing here....it's the "effort". I'm seeing it from Leon.......not from TJ....not a smashmouth effort anyway.
It's easier to show "effort" when it means juking in space. For Jones, if he tries to be shifty 2 yards in the backfield, it means a loss of 2 instead of getting back to the line.
how daft are you? shiftiness and juking isn't what i consider "effort" in this case....I'm talking about fighting for extra yards!! LW is crawling on his fucking lips trying to squeeze out extra yardage....and TJ is getting hit, and getting stopped DEAD in his tracks.
Easier to squeeze out a yard when it's a 200 pound safety hitting you as opposed to a 300 pound lineman.
LW was running through the tackles today....all his touches weren't screen passes. But you're totally missing the point anyway........just go turn up the John Denver and throw your headphones on....it'd be much easier on both of us.

yeah well.....call me stupid for being concerned about the Jets having 8 to 10 straight "3 and outs" and allowing the Titans to get back into the game...when they had no business doing so. The Jets played great....but the run game needs to be watched.....I don't give a fuck what anybody says...if Thomas Jones doesn't start running with some fucking pride and passion.....we'll be in serious trouble down the way, IMO. This is supposed to be a "smashmouth" run team.
I agree with everything you're saying MB...something just isn't right about Jones' running this season, bad blocking or not.
Good run defense or not....TJ didn't move the pile at all.....hell, Haynesworth wasn't there to contend with either.
Thomas Jones has always disliked being hit. He goes down immediately. Has anyone ever seen him get hit and keep on going? He's a big guy who runs like he's afraid to get hit. If the line gives him a huge hole he has the speed to break it open but if they don't give him a big hole he runs into the line and goes down. The offensive line needs to improve also. We have three veterans and two high draft picks entering their four year. They need to consistently give the backs more room to work with.
Shonn Greene please! give the kid one carry! If there is one thing Rex Ryan has pissed me off about it's refusing to give Greene carries. Thomas Jones looks done. I don't wanna hear about the blocking. Leon Washington did just fine. Not special but he was gaining positive yards.
Faneca and Moore aren't doing their jobs effectively imo... plus TEN has one heck of a run D... let's see against NO how they do.
