Well. I can't go to the Jets game tomorrow because I'm participating in Rolling Thunder with some other Vietnam Vets. I've been doing this for many, many years now and I can't let people down... I just have to be there. And it starts at Warrananco Park at 11 and works it's way down to the Memorial at Holmdel, so there is no way in hell I can go to the game... in other words, be in two places at the same time. So, reluctantly, my son sold the tickets for me to some guys at work because with the new baby, he can't go either.

The tickets are sold and at least they didn't go to waste, but I don't even have a DVD recorder at home that works and now I was faced with not even watching the game let alone not being there. And it's been killing me for weeks. What a kick in the ass.

So a couple of weeks ago, Comcast sent me these cockamamie boxes that have to be installed on EVERY TV in your house or you get very limited channels. Okay, fine. So I took a look at the boxes and threw up my hands and call Comcast to "Get somebody's ass out here to install these God Damned things." I didn't even wnat them in the first place and I'm sure as hell not going to set them up without fucking something up."

So the installer shows up on Thursday and he tells me he can install a BETTER box on my new huge Samsung HDTV in my family room that will be a DVR recorder too. So I'm sayin', "Do you mean I can record my Jets game on Sunday while I'm at Rolling Thunder and watch it when I get home?" And he says, "Hell yes dude!" And I say, "Install the fucking thing right now! I don't care what it costs!"

So now I've been practicing with recording on my HDTV and man, this shit is really cool. You can even program the recording manually so that, in case the JEts game goes into sudden death OT, it will still record. So I set the thing for 12:55PM until 4:45PM on CBS-HD for tomorrow.

This is some high tech world, man. By now you guys are probably laughing hysterically but to me this was a fucking life saver! I would have been in that Rolling Thunder thing having a good time with all the other Vets, don't get me wrong, but I would have had a knot in my stomach over having first sold the tickets and THEN getting kicked in the ass and not even seeing the game.

Now I'm all set. I get to have my cake and eat it too. Is 227 high tech or what?

Welcome to the land of DVR my friend! It will be your damn lifesaver!!! The best part is...if you haven't already found out is that your Jets viewing pleasure will go from 4 hours etc...down to about an hour and a half when you fast forward through all the commercials and half-time! lol lol

Welcome to the ranks of the micro-chip enhanced my man!!!

    Peace!

    The Mezz

Beware, at least for me. When i set to record a Jets game i usually always miss the last few minutes. The game doesnt always end at 4:00pm. So i record what is on after the also.

Ive been bit a few times by not recording what starts at 4:00pm.

Oh and yeah. Fast forwarding is the ****.

Yeah, you can deal with that easily. Suppose the game goes into Sudden Death OT and lasts until 4:30. If you just record the program, it's going to shut off at 4PM. No problem... like I say, I programmed it manually (you select the time, not the set programming), so you instruct it to record CBS from 12:55PM until 4:45PM... no problem.

Also, sometimes in the past, when I go to a Jets game, when I get home I see the highlights on TV, but that's all, and it sure would be nice to see the game as it was shown on TV... maybe I want to see Leon taking it to the house again or whatever.

I can just record the game while I'm at the game, then watch whatever I want. I feel like somebody just reinvented the wheel. I'm pumped. I get to go with the guys tomorrow and still watch the entire game. What I'm going to do is not even listen to the radio (I don't want to know the outcome). I won't even come here because it will be all over the board. I'll come here AFTER I watch the recording.

    Life is good....

Let me first say Thank You for being a Veteran, I am really proud of those who risk their lives to fight for our freedom. Secondly, DVR is probably the best invention for all sports fans everywhere. Lastly, hopefully your son didn't sell the tickets to Pats fans, this stadium needs to literally shake tomorrow.

Yeah, that is really cool Mezz, thanks. I'm already experimenting with that and I'm all set up now for tomorrow. The Jets are going to win, baby, and I'm going to get to watch it!

Nice, now the hard part is not finding out who won the game until after you watch it.

Yeah, and "how I want" is going to be with some cold Coronas and chips and dip and salsa and maybe some crackers and cheese and can't forget the peanuts and..... I'm sure I'll think of all the rest....

I can see myself now... fiendishly fast forwarding through the commercials while juggling between the remote and the chips and dip.

just make sure NO ONE can tell you the score. whenever i record a game I find it impossible for someone to not tell me a score and it's annoying as hell!

i wound up going out a few weeks ago on the monday night of the ravens game and i recorded it to watch sanchez. at 8:13 someone shouts, sanchez got picked and they returned it for a TD...I'm like ughhh! Night ruined!

    but DVR is GREAT!

Don't worry. There is so much noise from the Harleys that these guys cannot possibly be listening to a radio. None of them will know the score. And by the time I get home by myself, neither will I.

So I just pull into my garage, go into my house and hit "My DVR>My Recordings>CBS Recording>Play" and sit back and crack my beer. Set at 12:55, I'll have 5 minutes to either take my fist sip or fast forward to the kickoff.

Like Mezzavo says, if I start watching the game at 4PM I'll be done with it by 5:30 because of the commercial eliminations.

be careful though, if your TV turns on to channel 2, sometimes they talk about the games on that channel so hit mute as soon as it turns on and don't look

No chance in hell, LOL. In my family room my wife watches Lifetime or HGTV, the home and garden channel, so that's what it's set at right now. She's headed for Mineola tomorrow to visit her mom while I'm at Rolling Thunder, so by the time I get home and turn it on, I'll be tuning in to some guy painting murals or something.

I hit "My DVR" and I'm in my own world... Jets football!
