Smoltz was reported and admitted to tipping his pitches while he was with the Sox. However, no way him or Penny could have survived in the AL East. If I am a pitcher trying to resurge my career after surgery, the last place I am going to is the AL East. I have no idea what these guys were thinking (probably money). There's a reason some pitchers are labeled as "NL" pitchers, and these two guys fit the bill. Smoltz in his prime could have handled it, Penny just throws fastballs. I don't care if you're hitting 100 consistently, in the AL you're gonna get creamed. You need a secondary pitch, and I never was convinced Penny had one suitable enough.
Wade Davis made his major league debut for the Rays today against the Tigers. 7 innings, 3 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, 9 Ks Tigers mounting a comeback in the 9th, though. This could cost Davis the win.
The fucking Rockies, man,, jeez. They don't lose anymore. I do have to laugh at the Dodger fans who thought Jim Tracy wasn't a good manager, I'm sure they aren't laughing. If they pass us I won't be laugghing anymore, either. At least the Dodgers pasted SF last night, that's always fun.
Worth mentioning, I suppose, that David Wright had 2 HRs and 6 RBI against the Phils, including a two out two run HR in the top of the 9th to put the Mets ahead after being down by 4 runs in the 8th. It's going to be hard for the Phils to repeat considering how awful their bullpen is.
eh, Crede sucks anyway. I don't even get why he gets playing time. They have utility guys better than him. He's 31 and here's his BA/OBP the last three seasons: 2007: .216/.258 in 167 ABs 2008: .248/.314 in 335 ABs 2009: .225/.289 in 333 ABs He had one decent season with the White Sox in 2006 and he was so bad that they got rid of him. The Twins picking him up was inexplicable.
They were expecting a 25 homer season from the guy, again, inexplicably. He was to be their bench power bat, he came cheaper than the other bats in the FA market and he had potential to be more. Not an all around BAD pickup, but they were expecting too much from the man.
