I'd like to visit the QBs the Jets could have had, if the Jets made the stupid decision of not trading up in the draft to get Mark Sanchez. The Jets wanted Cutler big time, but the Broncs didn't give them the chance to trade for him. Cutler had four pickoffs today. If Detroit chose to take Sanchez and leave Stafford for the Jets, the Jets would have had a guy who threw for three picks today. Favre? He had a decent game today. He's still got it. But he didn't want to be on the Jets, and so to him I say good luck elsewhere. Brady Quinn or the other mediocre QB on the Browns? If the Browns didn't give up the #5 to the Jets, the Jets might have been starting one of the Browns QBs. Today, Quinn did, well, a little better than mediocre. He made some mistakes, but he didn't do that bad. Clemens? Ahem... The bottom line: The Jets chose right. We can thank Mangini and the Browns for giving us the opportunity to get him. Mangini's best move for the Jets happened after he left the Jets. Hee hee
Favre still has it? Has what? The ability to hand off to the best running back in the NFL?? He threw for 110 yards today on 14 completions - about 8 yards per completion. The NFL average is about 11-12 yards per completion. If Pennington had a day like that for the Jets 3 or 4 years ago, Jet fans would be calling for his head. Favre is done and right now is my least favorite NFL player. I wish him nothing but failure this year and I hope he slinks back to Louisiana for good after this season. I am sick of him and his act and the way most of the NFL media fawn over him. When the weather gets cold and Favre has been banged around for 8-10 weeks and the Vikings are not playing the Browns, but a real NFL team and need a passing game, Favre will play just he did down the stretch last year and the year before. And the Vikings will wish they developed Jackson or stuck with Rosenfels or had a long term plan at QB before their window closes in a few years. Favre is a one year fix and that fix is a bad trip.
I think it's a bit early to say that. Sanchez has only started one game. He likely won't be phenomenal the rest of the season, while Cutler and Stafford won't nearly be as bad as they were today. I agree that right now it looks like Tanny made the best move with Mark, but let's see if we agree with your statement at the end of the season (I think we will).
great game by sanchez today. you just couldnt wait to get on here and tell everyone how smart you are could you? or how right you are? congratulations
...and you couldn't wait to get on here and whine about how wrong you were. Sanchez was the right choice. You lose.
a) I really don't like Cutler but most of those picks were on his retarded receivers not running the correct routes b) Stafford plays for the Lions c) He won't in 10 weeks d) The Jets were never going to start one of the Browns' QBs e) Keep hatin'. Ahem... f) I'm sure we made the right decision too and we all love Sanchez.. but it's one game.
Could you imagine what this thread would have looked like if the jets didnt have a good game? Its one game (and one of the best I have seen since the 41-0 trouncing of Indy) lets wait until at least week 5 before we anoint him the messiah or the devil... ok?
I like the way Sanchez looked in the pocket. Looked very comfortable. I question a couple of his throws but I will attribute those to opening day jitters. I dont know for me it only gets better from here. Sure their will be rookie mistakes , but if our defense played like it did today we can absorb them. Personallly I extremely excited about what I saw yesterday and I think the best is yet to come
There's more to success then the quarterback, Stafford was on a team that went 0-16 last year, how is he supposed to perform well with no supporting cast? Sanchez is surrounded by relatively decent talent.
I gotta admit I was one of those people on draft day that was second guessing our decision to go after Sanchez. I felt like we should have traded to get a veteran QB and then drafted a WR. But, I quickly made the choice to support the decision and get behind Sanchez. Watching Dirty in the preseason, he really won me over. I proudly wore my new #6 Sanchez shirt yesterday to the bar as I watched the game, and I couldn't have been happier with how he played. Even with the 1 interception, I think that's probably good that he didn't have a perfect game in his first NFL game; it gives him more motivation to be more focused next time.
I agree .... I'll eat my crow NOW .... Before we drafted MS I was absolutely sure it was the WRONG move .... Guess that's why I'm a fan and not doing the drafting .... MS looks poised in the pocket, his mechanics look GREAT .... He seems to be the leader we were in need of .... I can see some rookie mistakes and such, I do not expect him to be as good as he was today ( although that would be nice ) for each and every one of our next 15 regular season games .... Hope he put on a show for each of our division opponents
