..are you now confident in Jerricho Cotchery's abilities to be a "number 1" wide receiver?

Cotchery impressed the hell out of me today. He was great and was a great blanket for Sanchez. He stepped it up BIG TIME.

Number one on the Jets, yes.

An elite receiver, no. The Jets have no elite receivers.

His abilities make him a great possession receiver, not a "true #1". But he's good enough to be the leading receiver and go-to guy on this team, so if that's what you mean, then yes.

Try telling Peyton Manning that having a lot of Possession receivers are a bad thing.

Jericho made key catches in 3rd and long situations. He will always be a possession receiver. Labeling him a "#1" or " 2" will not change the way he will be utilized.

I kid you not. I have said that all off season I considered him a #1.

Posted in a few threads about it and I'll tell you all day today I was screaming (I have a big mouth) "OH NO, HE's NOT A #1 !!!!"

    Give me a Break.
    The guy is a GAMER!!!

How many broken tackles and signs of excellent hands does a man have to produce to say he's a #1??

I will say this over and over. There is no such thing as #1.

when you spread the ball around, it doesn't matter. cotch is a good NFL receiver. is he larry fitzgerald or andre johnson (when not being covered by revis lol)...No, he's not but he doesn't have to do it all himself. a 1000 yd + receiver who can grab close to 100 balls is a quality receiver no matter how you slice it. he's been consistent for 2 years...he's the least of our worries

we utilized our most potent weapons today. i also really like the use of leon aggressively for a change.

Not to be a negative nancy but I voted no. To be fair their #1 CB Dunta Robinson missed the entire off season and just got signed to the franchise tender 3 days ago. Not only that but their pass defense is pretty weak overall. I still feel we can upgrade our WRs corps because when we play top notch defenses and more importantly when Cotchery faces off against a top notch #1 CB, he's gonna get smothered. That's why you need a #1 WR ala Chad Johnson,Brand Marshall etc to overcome teams with that type of ability . He played excellent today but you have to keep everything in perspective for what it is. Our WR corps will be our weakest link all year long. Every team has a weak link all we need to do is find ways to overcome it such as great pass blocking to buy them time, great play calling etc.

I think you can always upgrade your team if you can and should never become complacent. Look around the league there are about 20 teams with better WRs. I love Cotchery and what he's about he's a top 30 WR in a 32 team league. If our weakest link is a good unit that means every other unit is awesome and we should be a superbowl caliber team no? It is what it is.

As far as yards and receptions go, yes. I hope he gets 1100 yards this year. Keller, 900 and Stuckey 800-900.

I agree with some that there is no such thing as a #1 Receiver.....that does not mean we can't improve at that spot. I don't think a baby like Brand Marshall is the answer....but who else is a possibility to pick up?

Uhh.. if you take a #1 to mean an elite playmaking receiver, which is what it typically does, then why can't you make that distinction? Moss, Johnson, Fitz, TO, etc all bring a combination of talent to the game that makes them elite.. speed, height, physicality, etc. and that makes them #1 receivers. That doesn't mean you need them to win, but they are the best.

Can't agree more. Just because there are 32 teams doesn't mean there are 32 true #1 receivers. My definition of a #1 WR is a receiver who can consistently make impact plays regardless of the coverage and who he's playing against. They have the ability to take over and dominate a game single handed. A good example would be Plaxico Burress vs Green Bay in the playoffs last year. Unfortunately Cotchery doesn't have that level of ability.

    Agree here.

Is he one of the top few in the game? Well no, not even close. Is he good enough to help carry this offense? I think so. The Combo of Cotchery, Keller, and Stucky give Sanchez a lot of weapons if this game is any indication.
