Friday, September 11 Tickets Yankee Stadium | 7:05 PM ET BAL Chris Tillman, RHP (1-3, 4.66) Orioles (56-83) @ NYY Andy Pettitte, LHP (13-6, 4.10) Yankees (91-50) Scouting Report: Orioles: Tillman had six days off before his last start and will have seven days off before this one, a function of Baltimore having three off-days in the first two weeks of September. The Orioles have said that they will shut down Tillman early to keep him from running up too many innings, and he may only have two starts left. The rookie has completed six innings in five of his first eight big league starts. Yankees: Pettitte allowed four earned runs on four hits and five walks over six innings against Toronto on Saturday as the offense lifted him to his fourth straight win and 13th of the season. The veteran lefty is quietly putting together a solid year for the Yankees and hasn't lost since July 25. Pettitte would love nothing more than a repeat appearance against the Orioles after he took a perfect game into the eighth inning and exited after giving up a run on two hits. He is a career 26-6 with a 3.56 ERA in 39 games against Baltimore. Saturday, September 12 Tickets Yankee Stadium | 1:05 PM ET BAL Brian Matusz, LHP (4-2, 5.26) Orioles (56-83) @ NYY A.J. Burnett, RHP (11-8, 4.19) Yankees (91-50) Scouting Report: Orioles: Matusz likely will be shut down following one of his next two starts. In his first season of professional baseball, Matusz climbed from Class A to Double-A before making the unexpected leap to Baltimore last month. He's never thrown nearly as many as the 150 2/3 combined big league and Minor League innings he accumulated through Saturday's 5-4 win against Texas. Matusz went seven solid innings against the Rangers, allowing three runs in the first and another run in the third before settling down to face the minimum over the final four innings. Matusz has thrown seven innings in each of his last two starts, with wins in three straight decisions. Yankees: Burnett ended a four-game losing streak and a seven-start winless stretch by pitching six innings of one-run ball against the Rays. Burnett struck out eight and walked three, lowering his ERA to 4.19. Burnett, who had allowed six homers in his previous three starts entering Monday's, kept the ball in the ballpark against Tampa Bay. In three starts against Baltimore this season, Burnett is 2-0 with a 5.09 ERA. In his career vs. the Orioles, Burnett sports a 9-1 record despite a 5.00 ERA. He allowed six runs on 11 hits in 5 1/3 innings Sept. 1 in Baltimore. Sunday, September 13 Tickets Yankee Stadium | 1:05 PM ET BAL Jeremy Guthrie, RHP (10-13, 4.96) Orioles (56-83) @ NYY CC Sabathia, LHP (16-7, 3.40) Yankees (91-50) Scouting Report: Orioles: As the lone veteran in the Orioles' rotation, Guthrie has scuffled for much of this season. But in his past four outings, the right-hander has pitched like the rotation leader and Opening Day starter the Orioles expected him to be. Guthrie has gone six or more innings in each of his past four outings, going 3-0 with a 1.33 ERA over that span. His seven-inning effort in Sunday's 7-0 O's win over the Rangers was one of his best of the year, and it sparked just the third shutout of the year by the Orioles' staff. Guthrie reached 10 wins for a second successive season in his last outing. Yankees: Sabathia turned in another shutdown performance in his last start, striking out 10 Rays and allowing three hits in a no-decision on Monday. The lefty has now struck out 10 batters in three starts this season, and all have come since his Aug. 13 outing in Seattle. Despite walking four Monday, Sabathia still has a 63-to-11 strikeout-to-walk ratio in his last seven starts. He has a 1.67 ERA in that stretch. In four games against the Orioles this season, Sabathia is 3-1 with a 2.63 ERA. He struck out nine and walked one in the Yankees' 10-2 win in Baltimore on Sept. 2.
^^ I was going to start another thread as the standing protocol dictates and this would have been my fourth in a row thanks to the Yanks winning ways. However chuckles feels the need to intercede as usual.
C'mon man, it has very little to do with being on the ball. There's no time limit prior to a series starting that you need to start a thread. Unless you can show me otherwise. In fact a lot of times people start a thread minutes before a series starts. YET there is still a protocol in place that needs to be followed. This clown made the thread at 2pm this afternoon. I still had plenty of time to start a thread prior to the first game at 7. I could've started it at 3, 4 or even 5pm tonight. Ok I could've gotten it up a little sooner. Yet it has everything to do with the principle of following the rules(which this guy doesn't do) and much less to do with not being punctual about starting my threads in a timely fashion. There's rules in place and the rules were not followed. Bottom line. Anyway feel free to respond but I'm gonna drop this now. I don't wanna distract any further from the most important thing here: The game itself.
So they're gonna try to play this game after all. Jeter just struck out in his first at bat...even if he gets a hit he might have to break this record twice, I'm not convinced that they can get this game finished. It's still raining pretty hard.
As a METS fan, I have to say congrats to Derek Jeter. A very likeable guy that is CLUTCH! Yankees fans, enjoy this moment, and hop[e they bring up another guy like him in the future.
Congrats to Jeter, one of the greatest all time Yanks. I watched "the flip" a bunch of times just remember his great plays, and that is by far the greatest play ever by a SS in my opinion it's just amazing. I remember watching it live, and not believing what I saw. If you ever want your kids to watch a true professional, just show them Derek Jeter.
