Hines Ward, one of my all-time favorite players never to play for the Jets, just blew this one for 'em. It's funny, I'm watching with my roommates, we're all rooting for the Tits (mainly cause of Kerry Collins) and my friend is yelling "let him score, let him score" then he fumbled. That's why you don't let him score.
Hines is my favorite player ever. I type this as I wear his jersey. That team is too good to let something like that defeat them. Troy's knee may kill that defense from being top 3 this year. 7-9? Beyond ignorant unless more people get hurt.
I have no idea what a derg is. I'm going to assume it's idiot, but in all fairness...if he gets down, Pitt wins. If you let him score, Tennessee's got a minute and a half to work with. It's a ballsy strategy, but it does make some sense.
Willie Parker has lost a step and Mendenhall is stump dumb, Moore did okay but he is a 3rd down back, thats the only weakness I see, unless Polamalu is out for an extended time, his closing speed is unreal
I wouldn't be at all surprised if Moore gets the majority of carries from here on out. He appears to be the only RB they trust.
The Steelers do a poor job of protecting Roethlisberger. That's going to catch up to them sooner or later.
The Steeler's line is porous and has been for several seasons. That's the main reason they let Faneca go, because his weakness was in pass protection and they badly wanted to shore that up. The Steelers line last night was terrible. They couldn't run the ball effectively, despite the absence of Haynesworth from the middle of the Titan defense and they also did the usual poor job of protecting Roethlisberger. No repeat happening in Pittsburgh this year because the o-line won't allow it.
While I agree that thier line sucks, any team with a defense that good has a chance to compete. Combine that D with Bens ability to make something out of nothing and they should be at least back in the playoff hunt and once in the playoffs anything can happen. Thier line tends to look worse statisticly then they really are because of Ben's tendancy to hold the ball forever and never just throw one away. The Steelers D had several pressures last night that ended in a Collins throw to the side lines, where Ben tends to make a play or takes a big hit. That said, the steelers line is in the bottom half of the league, just not as bad as they often look on paper.
They'll do much better than 7-9. 10-6 at worst probably 11-5. Those were two of the top 5 defenses in the NFL on the field last night. The Titans without Haynesworth still look like a nasty formidable unit.
The Titans outplayed the Steelers for most of the game (should have won if not for missed field goals) but the Steelers still have a nasty fuckin defense. That defense alone will carry them to at least 11 wins The line and running game looked like shit
From profootballfocus Quick Hits A look at some performances of note Steelers Offence Stats and Analysis of the Steelers Offence Steelers Defence Stats and Analysis of the Steelers Defence Titans Offence Stats and Analysis of the Titans Offence Titans Defence Stats and Analysis of the Titans Defence Player Participation A log of where every player lined up on every single snap
The stats just don't work. Nothing zero's out and that tells you it is a leaky system with arbitrary valuations that essentially mean nothing. As an example: the Steeler's gross offensive rating is -12.0, the Titan's gross defensive rating is 12.3. Well that could be a rounding error and might be acceptable in that context. But then you look at the Steeler's gross defensive rating and get a 5.1. The Titan's gross offensive rating? -13.2. That's not within the realm of a rounding error and it tells us that a huge part of the interplay between the Steeler's defense and the Titan's offense is unaccounted for by the system. If you can't zero the system out at the end of the day it has no value, it's just pure speculation on the part of the people doing the analysis. As an example of stats that did round out at the end of the day just look at the Steeler's and Titan's offensive and defensive lines. Those zero'd out perfectly: Steelers 13 points scored and 10 points allowed, Titans 10 points points scored and 13 points allowed. Every other stat in the game zero'd out also. The folks at Pro Football Focus need to get to zero before that system is worth anything.
I'm pretty sure it's not meant ot zero out,it's not so straight forward that when an offensive player does well that the opposing defensive player done poorly. We've discussed the site before and I doubt there is much I can say to make you change your mind. Although there is a point to be made about what the combined overall rating for a team brings to the table, you did point out that the Jets had a much higher overall than the Steelers last year.I forwarded your points to the guys that actualy run the site.
