He is not going anywheres for atleast 2 years-He is a restricted free agent after this year. And then we have right of first refusal and draft pick compensation if we franchise him. Who knows, he could tear up his knee next week and then the Jets are geniuses for all the money they saved. Thats why its in his best interest to sign a contract that is fair, and that they dont have to even offer him. He wants top money when he doesnt really have the leverage to get it and hasnt shown that he can handle a full time starter's role. I think he is being unrealistic. Just my taxed two cents.
Because when you start getting paid a lot they don't want you risking an injury. At least that's how it seems.

I think $50 million puts them over the cap, Don. They are offering him $5 million, which is fine, his agent needs to get it done.

Maybe if he waits until the year is over and gets 300 touches like Ryan said they will pay him that. Just not now based on what he has done so far.

Leon and his agent want top 5 runningback money, and if he hasn't taken the 5 million reported to have been offered, it's possible that they are willing to gamble on this one. If they don't get a 6mil offer, the Jets either let him go or hit him with the franchise tag - which is top 5 runningback money. It's not stupid from a leverage standpoint, because if the Jets are willing to pay him top 5 money for one season, they're basically admitting he's a top 5 back. Which helps Keels.
From NFL.Com News: League sources tell the New York Daily News that the Jets aren't interested in acquiring WR Brandon Marshall from the Broncos anymore. The Jets still want to address the receiver position but won't consider Marshall any longer. So basically, the Jets are working harded than ever to acquire Marshall.
The Jets may be willing to pay him top 5 money if he proves he can handle the load. Nothing wrong with paying him the money after he proves he's worth it.
If he can prove he can handle the load, with his ability, I think he will probably be a top 5 runningback, possibly top 3. And then he'll want much more than 6mil a season.
