I'm pretty sure we all hated Keels before we knew he was black.

You almost had a really good post.. made a few good points.. and then your ignorance kicked in and you decided to end your post with the most arrogant and retarded comment i have read in awhile. It just eradicates anything good about your post. You have no concept of alternate perspectives. What you need to understand is we are all fans here.. JET FANS.. we just wanna see our players get signed as soon as possible.. no one really cares how much.. just how long for it to get done..

Yes, it matters to Drew Rosenhaus whether his guy signs for $24 million or $25 million. He gets his clients based on his ability to squeeze every extra dollar out of a deal. I agree that Leon is equally to blame for this, but I have a tough time saying I agree with that poster when he drops the race card at the end there. I dislike Keels because of the body of his work, not because he's a successful black agent. That blanket accusation is absolutely ridiculous.

Like I said, I agree with the substance of the post. The race stuff is just stupid (and unfortunate, because it is going to prove to distract from a solid argument.)

It does matter to Rosenhaus to get the best deal possible, but it's more important to his image that he gets players their money without sabotaging their careers. If he gets a reputation as being impossible to negotiate with, nobody will sign with him. It's in his best interests to get players into camp. 9 times out of 10 it's the egomaniacs like T.O. who cause holdouts, not the agents who negotiate on their behalf.

Agreed, but it doesn't bode well for Keels that so many of his clients are the ones having these problems.

agents have to charge 3% in the NFL. They can't go above that.

I've seen other agents act. Keels (or you, Mr. Keels) have no professional courtesy when standing in front of the personnel that handles contract negotiations.

And then the world got to watch Alvin Keels prove that on Hard Knocks 09 last wednesday.

Rosenhaus is a classier and agent than Alvin Keels.

Keels is a shady character. Key word is character.

How could you forget golf club? Oh wait the way Tiger's been playing lately his club has been thrown in the bushes more than he's been carrying it in his hand. (I wonder if Nike took down that video too)

I'm just curious though Al... why would it make us mad? Nobody on here gives a rats ass about you nor will we ever. We only care that Leon signs his extension and helps the Jets win football games. Seriously are you trying to imply that we're all a bunch of closet racists? Maybe you should get out of Virginia and come up North and see how the real world works. I read the article on the Alabama football blog and the 1st quote given was " I think race plays a small role in it" . I'm starting to wonder who the racist is here? I guess your paranoid that the big old bad white man is gonna take away your gravy. Having worked in the business I know all these owners want is to win, they don't care if Scooby Doo walked through the door, if he could throw a football he'd be on the roster tomorrow.

I wonder if Dre still loves you after you agreed to this “the contract contains a provision that slashes in half Smith’s pay for each game in which he weighs in at 350 pounds or higher — and in which he is not on the active 45-man roster"... sounds like the Bengals just owned you. With Andre at over 350 and injured those paychecks are gonna look alot smaller than what the man thinks he's getting paid. He signed a deal which was essentially the same deal the Bengals had on the table for what 2 or 3 weeks? Sounds like Andre will be looking for a new agent once he figures out he lost out on his deal. You know he probably isn't over 350 or injured and likely on the 45 man roster if he didn't hold out for so long for a few extra pennies.

I know the business side of it having worked in multiple front offices, and being in the sports business for most of my adult life. I understand how it operates and I've never questioned the man getting paid. He earned his millions and he deserves every penny of what he gets. Maybe a few jealous people take issue with it but like I said before, all we want is for Leon to help this team win a Super Bowl. I've seen the other side so I do know what goes on in these situations.

I'll give it you though I could never do what you do, I'm just no good with numbers so I'll certainly give you your props for that. I'm just curious though... is your ego that small that you need to come into a Jets forum and defend yourself to a bunch of nobodies?

Actually I think it was a terrible post from someone that does not understand the role and influence of an agent.

I am a real estate agent and while you may be thinking there is no comparison to a sports agent give me a moment to explain.

If I go into someones home, really build them up, compliment them on their decorating, tell them they have a beautiful house and that it would easily sell for $500,000 because the house across the street sold for that, even though it should really only sell for $300,000 then many well educated adults will have that number stuck in their heads. They will stick with it as numerous offers of $300,000-$350,000 come in that they turn down because I told them the house was worth $500,000.

People get this pumped up about their home how do you think someone is going to take it when their ego is stroked by their agent who is telling them they are worth $6,000,000.

Leon is a college educated man but when ego takes over the education or intelligence does not matter. He is also more focused on the football side rather than the business side which the agent is supposed to handle.

I personally don't look too highly upon agents that feel the need to twitter non-stop. Especially when at the time I believe he had at least 4 clients that needed to get under contract.

I am pretty sure I remember someone posting about Keels when Leon first switched to him and they saw something like this coming. Guess his reputation preceded him.

I actually didn't have any feelings about Alvin Keels before I read this post. I chalked it up to agent greed and posturing. But you have opened my eyes.

Now I hate him, I think he's a worthless piece of shit, and I hope he gets hit by a bus, like, yesterday.

Thanks for making my mind up.

Imagine how popular he is going to be if Washington doesn't sign before the season starts and then he gets hurt running back a KO and is career is finished.

    From King's MMQB:

Well, I think the writing is on the wall: Peter King hates blacks.

But seriously, the lousy track record for Alvin Keels grows. This man does not care about the success or longevity of his clients. He's looking for his juicy three percent and a padded resume to pull in some more juicy three percents.

Don't know much about him, didn't even know he was black. But anyway, doesn't sound too good with that Andre Smith signing. Sad commentary there if that is what he really said.

I work in real estate and totally agree. When you're acting as someone's agent they are putting a fair amount of trust in your expertise and talents. If you quote them a specific number they are probably going to listen to you; if not then what are they paying you for? Leon does shoulder some of this blame, but Keels clearly deserves more of it.

FYI. Leon wants six million a year. Brandon Jacobs is making slight over 6 million a year on a contract worth 25 million that spans four years. I love Leon's big play ability and think he is the most dangerous player on that offense, but his contributions are NOT on par with Jacobs' and I think that needs to be considered.

If you're going to accuse people of being racists you should do a better job of choosing your arguments... who can possibly take you or your argument seriously when probably half the people on this board didn't even know that Keels was black?

You sound more like someone who has race issues yourself and needs to blame it on others.

That's not completely his fault, Mangenius didn't give him very many opportunities last season.

The fact is, Leon is the most dangerous weapon the Jets have, needs to and will be utilized more.
