I don't usually agree with Scott Wright....again, I have some issues. Here's his 1st Mock draft for 2010. http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/sub/mockdraft.html Jets' are drafting Arrelious Benn at #12.......I believe Benn will be a single digit pick. Benn's size, speed and ability should have him rated above Dez.....IMO, a mistake. I prefer Benn over Bryant. The Jets will never have the opportunity to draft Benn unless they move up into the top 6 area.
I don't know much about next years draft at this point clearly Mr. E and WW85, are two of our better scouts, but as a quick look I seriously doubt we see 2 safeties go in the top 5 as back to back selections. No matter how talented Berry and Mays are, it is incredibly rare to see a safety go top ten, correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the last safety to go top 10 was Sean Taylor and he was the first in a very long time. NFL super-safeties Troy Palamalu and Ed Reed were both taken in the 20's if memory serves. Again I am not saying that those two dont have top 5 talent I just would be very very shocked if either one goes in the top 5, much less both back to back.
Eric Berry and Taylor Mays should both go in the top ten. I don't care what the past tells us, both players are phenomenal, once in a lifetime athletes. Berry is the best ball hawking safety that I have ever seen. Mays is built like a linebacker and runs like a corner.
NYJRule...good observation, I believe you're half right. Eric Berry will be a top 5 pick....he's a special player that doesn't come around too often.. Taylor Mays, IMO, will be selected around 8-10 range...so they won't go back to back. Safeties usually don't get drafted this high...Sean Taylor was an exception...good call. This upcoming draft will have two outstanding safeties drafted before the first CB. Remember, it's going to all be based on need, Mays could fall a little if a team doesn't have a need for a safety in the top 10....but not too far!!!
Damn that draft is so loaded with talent, I haven't looked at any mock draft for it yet and that's nice to see. I like Tebow to the Vikings, for some reason I just see him there and think him, Peterson, and Harvin will work well together.
A lot of us regulars have been saying for a while, this up coming draft is the best in over a decade. That's why I was thrilled that the Jets didn't give up a Rd 1 pick in 2010 in the trade with Cleveland to get Sanchez. You can bet most other teams would have demanded a Rd 1 pick to trade up from 17 to 5.
Oh yeah I've known for a while it's going to have tons of talent, I just haven't looked at a mock like that player for player. And yes I'm so glad that we didn't give up a 2010 pick too, thanks Mangini .
rather have Cody 3 spots down. put him and jenkins on the line at the same time and watch them fuck everyone up.
I think this could actually be the year we trade down a couple of spots and gain some extra picks . I figure we'll be picking in the 10-15 range but you can find a value WR or DL in the 20-25 picks... can't wait for this draft... fuck regular season
I don't like that draft simply on the fact that he has a DT going number one overall. Now everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I cant imagine anyone selecting a defensive tackle first overall. Glenn Dorsey was one of the best DT's to come out in recent history and he did not go number one (Yes, I know why he didnt). I really dont see how McCoy would go 1 overall, even though he is a great DT
Another overrated draft pick by Al Davis. Thank God...Al drafted Mitchell in rd 2 this year....the Raiders are saved !!! Huff a man without a position, is he a Safety or a CB???
I really can't believe Huff didn't work out. Anywhere else I remain confident he could have been a player coming out of UT. As for the draft, Berry and Mays are both nasty players. I'm of the age old philosophy that X used to have when he was all over the draft boards, good to great safeties can be found later on in every draft. That said, these two are the exceptions to the rule. Guys like Landry and Huff were very good, but I think Berry and Mays are both at that elite level of prospect. In the WR debate, Bryant is my guy, I take him over Benn even with the latter having a potentially big speed advantage.
Berry and Mays are the best safeties to come out since Taylor. I have Berry rated higher than Mays....but not by much. Berry will be a top 5 pick, Mays a top 10. Benn is my highest rated WR, as you mentioned, the speed advantage is the deciding factor for me over Bryant. Another factor, IMO, Bryant has a better throwing QB (Robinson) than Benn's Juice Wiliiams. Benn has made plays with a QB that isn't the most accurate and doesn't live on his arm alone.
If Berry or Mays would fall to us i 2010, do you think we should go for it? I know we have A LOT of other needs, (DL,WR) but they seem to be really special talents, that doesnt come around that often. Would it be BPA by a mile? Do you see any way, that we might get our hands on more picks, cus this draft really seem to be loaded with talent?(any possible trades?)
I like Berry better then Mays because Mays is a workoutwarrior and doesnt have instincs like Berry does hes a ballhawk that will lay the lumber
