We probably gave up cash, a VERY late round pick, or a lesser-to-equal value player for this guy. O'Connell could help out more than you know. It's basically like having Tom Brady's protege on our side.
to be honest unless this was a player for player swap we should be pissed, we have solid backups, why did we trade for a guy? I mean maybe we traded Clemens for him idk. Then again a few people have speculated that we might be packaging Clemens in with a pick to get a WR.... until it all shakes out I question the move....
Wasn't O'Connell just released from the Pats? Where is all this talk about trading for him coming from, pretty sure we just picked him up off waivers. I don't think Clemens has much trade value thoughout the league, also don't think Rex is all that high on him, I could see him being released outright.
Yeah Mangini is enough confused already with Quinn and Anderson. KC will not be an upgrade over any of the two QBs. I do however think this could be a move to acquire Marshall. Denver suck at QB. Wasn't Orton injured? They have no one behind him. Giving them KC would give them some stability at the position if they play a run first offense. Throw in BT and a 2nd, and we get ourselves another Sanchez type trade getting rid of an avg LB, backup QB, and 4th WR.
It's obvious that the Jets' coaching staff wanted this guy...we put in a waiver claim for him and lost out to the Lions. Tannenbaum wanted O'Connell, so he went out and got him...probably for close to nothing. This makes Clemens useless now - he's is on the way out and I don't think we'll release him. A trade has to be in the works...
I'm with those who are of the belief that this is part of a bigger trade in the works. Namely a receiver going from Orange to Green.
Maybe KC is going on IR. That elbow may be worse than originally thought. If that is the case, clearly Rex/Schotty have faith in Ainge as #2 QB or they would have signed a vet rather than a developmental guy.
Clemens has played pretty well in the preseason. There are plenty of KC haters on here but he is has been making steady progress as a pro. Good solid backup, spot starter. Teams will be interested if he is part of a package.
And given the fact that Detroit was first in line, Denver very well may have tried to claim him. While I don't think they have any interest in Clemens, it's actually an interesting idea to send O'Connell to Denver in some sort of package for Marshall.
