If Jones leaves next year could be an issue at RB. We'd have Leon ( hopefully his contract situation is worked out) and Greene . Its unlikely Richardson will be back - I'm thinking he will retire . Then we've cut Caulcrick so who knows if he sticks on the PS or is scooped up by another team. No way no how I'd want Woodhead as my third RB , when my first RB is smaller and Greene has had injury concerns so far.

If this plays out as listed here , RB becomes a major need on draft day or in FA for 2010.

RB is never a concern... it's full of guys who can be the number 3 RB... Woodhead will always stick around as the 4 RB on this team.
Hopefully the league will expand the regular season by 2 games soon and many teams will carry 4 RB (some already do, we are not the only ones).

    Incorrect.

Caulcrick would be able to enter the game in the 4th quarter.

RB is not a concern - oh really. You tell me that a backfield of Leon , Greene and Woodhead doesn't concern you. Like I said if the scenario plays out like this the priority in the 2010 draft and FA becomes RB.

Because he has excellent hands (better than any of the Jets backs), and due to his fantastic agility, he would be extremely difficult to cover out of the slot. You put the ball in Woodhead's hands in the open field and you have a perennial home run threat every time he touches the ball. That's why.

I don't wish injury on anyone. Woodhead is going to get decapitated if he ever gets into a game outside of garbage time. Everyone keeps talking about the new Chrebet, well, Wayne is paying for the multiple bell-ringings he suffered as a pro player. This kid doesn't stand a chance against first teamers, but I definitely wish him the best, especially his health.

I guees you would say the same thing about Leon, who is an inch taller but weighs the same? It isn't easy to line up a big hit on players like Leon or Woodhead. Shon Greene on the other hand will take some big shots, and we've seen that already from him, also against second teamers BTW. That rib injury to Greene is THE reason Woodhead got the opportunity in game 4 of preseason. If not for that, there would not even be a Danny Woodhead thread!

I'm saying there is always a possibilty of bringing in someone thorugh FA. My perfect backfield would always be composed of:

Leon (best guy we have on offense), Greene (a guy who can run between the tackles), ------- (someone who can do a bit of everything, right now TJ is that guy), Woodhead (a fast and versatile RB with good hands that can take the place of Leon if he gets hurt).

I think with a power running game it's more important to have 4 good RB than 2 good FB.
Keep a FB on the PS and if your starter gets hurt promote him to the squad.

If Leon gets hurt we have no RB whose main ability is being fast and elusive, if we lose our FB there are always various options to subtitute him... it's not that difficult of a position.

I'm not going to argue about Woodhead. He's a Jet, so he's getting me rooting for him. As I said yesterday, I'm only unhappy about cutting Caulcrick and Cummings, so overall, Woodhead didn't really take the place of someone really important, since both guys were depth players who will both possibly be on the PS anyway.

I find it very hard to believe Woodhead and Leon are the same weight. Leon is small, but Woodhead is tiny. Maybe it's a frame difference. Anyway, my point was, I hope he doesn't get obliterated on the field. That's all.

What the hell did we bother trading up for Greene then? If the Jets don't have the confidence that he can replace Jones why one Earth did we bother drafting him? Also you are right, if we get hit with the injury bug big time and our 3rd RB ends up having to take on a full workload, it doesnt matter who the #3 is we are in trouble. Same thing happens if your top 2 QB's go down. Anybody remember the year we started 5 qbs? what was that 04?

chad, fiedler, bollinger, carter and Vinny T i believe.... that was a nightmare year...

A lot of people seem to be thinking that Caulcrick was necessary to keep the power running game going. I think the combo of Greene and Jones is more than sufficient to play smash-mouth football. Leon and Woodhead give options in the passing game as well as versatility in terms of formations they can come out in. I really believe the Jets will turn to non-convenational pass-catchers (TEs and RBs) to make up for the unimpressive WR group. Woodhead & Leon will be a large part of that.

Imagine a shotgun formation with Jones & Woodhead in the backfield, Keller lined up at TE, and Cotchery and Leon at WR. Now imagine all the pre-snap movement madness Schotty could perform with this. I think, and hope, this is the kind of offense we see this year.

Chrebet's repeated concussions had far less to do with his size than with his fearless style of play. Al Toon continues to suffer from the same consequences for sacrificing his body and brain to make catches over the middle and Al was no smurf. In fact, the majority of ex NFL players who are suffering the effects of chronic post concussion syndrome are not small players but big men who played the game with reckless force and abandon and continued to take risks when they should have taken more rest.

If your casual assumptions of reality had merit, Ryan and the entire FO would be grossly irresponsible for keeping him on the team and using him which they no doubt intend to do. I trust their judgement and so should you.

I'm picturing it in my mind, and all the disaster and fun that could be had with this yet, I can't actually see Schotty doing it.... but you are right, let the insanity begin!!!
