I'm disgusted. I haven't seen the list of cuts yet, but I want to know who didn't make it just so this "Cinderella" could.
Remember Leon was overlooked his first season as well.He also wasnt the most "pronouced" RB to play his first year too. Guys have to start somewhere. Coles and Santana didnt do much first year either. Guys have to touch the ball in real gametime situations to show what they can do, and sadly, our former coach didnt take many gambles on players sans for Brad Smith. GIVE THE DAMN GUY a break! He Made the team, for what a head football coach thinks, and not for what or I do and see!
Greene<Woodhead by far this preseason. I am happy/proud for Woodhead, but how can he ever play with Thomas Jones and Leon Washington on the team. Either one of them out for him to be in a play would be a mistake.
Okay, after reviewing the cuts, the only ones I have any disagreements with are Caulcrik (sp?) and Cummings, and neither of them am I all that upset about, so Woodhead isn't necessarily taking up a roster spot for a guy we need. He'll be inactive all year and he'll get a chance to show off again next year. This turned into a non-event for me.
I'm with you Cummings looked great , think he lead in tackles??. Keeping 1 FB on roster is a huge mistake, especially as we are going to 'pound the rock'. Richardson is getting on in years and I hope he has enough in the tank IF hes going to be the only FB on the team. I'm all for guys earning a roster spot because they've worked hard, but is it in the best interest of the team? Sentiment seems to be getting in the way of logic here.
Obviously Ryan and Tannenbaum think this is what is best for the team. They didn't do it because they lost a bet or have a soft spot in their hearts.
No question Woodhead played out of his skin to make the team, no question. Woodhead, "The fans favorite", it would have taken alot of wind out of peoples sails if they had cut him. I'm at a loss to see where he will be used and think this is all a load of hype over the small, undersized white guy who done good. Especially when we are cutting other positions like FB. Tony Richardson is 37 for gods sake :alarm bells:
It will probably be a miracle if they stay as healthy as they did last year and with primarily a running attack I would think they will need three backs running the ball every week.
again as I have said 100 times already. in a single game, should TR get hurt, Caulcrick would be inactive, meaning that he wouldnt be able to step in and play. So the fact that he is on the PS means that after the game should TR miss more time, Caulcrick gets elevated to the actual roster for the time TR is out. It would be the same situation with Woodhead should one of our RB's get hurt, but I believe they made a judgement call about which guy they felt was more likely to slide through to the PS, and I agreed that Caulcrick would be more likely to slide through than Danny would be right now. also it sets us up perfectly for next year, when Jones leaves both DW and JC will be out of PS eligibility and our backfield would look like this RB Leon Greene Woodhead FB T-Rich Caulcrick It gives us the 5 man backfield we have now with adequate depth in both spots plus we have a young guy in Caulcrick who will have been trained for 2+ years by T-rich, so when its time for him to move on, Caulcrick can step right in without us losing too much.
In a way, Ryan painted himself into a corner here. He talked alot about working hard, playing your way onto the team, etc. If he cuts Woodhead, that was all bullshit. Like he said in the press conference, "I don't know what else we could have asked him to do." Woodhead's own team mates voted him "Most Exemplary Rookie" in training camp. Ryan's credibility was on the line. So, he will use Woodhead as his example instead.
I would dearly love to be proved wrong, but even as a 3rd down back against NFL defenses week in week out, I can't see Woodhead being effective.
Washington is and they aren't all that different at all. Woodhead is a little faster, Washington is an inch taller and they weigh the same. Nobody thought Washington could make it either. Woodhead will get a chance at some point and we will see.
Players of a similar build will always draw comparisons. I see Woohead as more of a Garrett Wolffe type build. Washington just seems alot more compact.
When they make his Bobblehead, they are going to cast it from his from his exact size, and it will look something like this.. Actual size
hutch's article this morning makes it sound like woodhead is just keeping a seat warm for Lorenzo Neal, who got cut by the raiders. http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2009/09/punter_wide_receiver_tight_end.html
