I'm surprised. Not upset but surprised.

    Houston we got Wood!

Congrats to Danny the little man who could.

I'm sure if he was cut Mangini would have had a plane ticket waiting.

I think the Jets have had some of their All Time Greats come from small schools as well...

    Klecko = Temple
Hugh Douglas = Central State (Ohio)
Mark Gasteneau = East Central Oklahoma
    Ken O'Brien = UC Davis
    Wayne Chrebet = Hofstra
    Winston Hill = Texas Southern
    Don Maynard = UTEP
    Joe Fields = Widener

All in all it doesn't matter where you play but if you can play. This kid obviously proved to the coaching staff that he can play.

Those stats are why I was high on Woodhead to begin with. He just didn't look as explosiveness coming out of the backfield and through the tackles in preseason as I thought he would. Leon looks a lot faster.

So How will they utilize him? I think he will become a WR. I don't think he will be a very good between the tackles type player as he does go down quickly.

    Thoughts?

He has a lot of the same abilities as Washington. He probably won't see many plays but when he does he could see the same as Washington does. He could also be used as a second deep receiver on kickoffs. Then they couldn't kick away from either of them.

I suspect he will be inactive more often than not, unless Leon gets injured. Even when inactive he will have value on the scout team during the week to prep the D for small fast guys from other teams.

Danny Woodhead is listed at 5'9", 195 lbs. in my local paper. Haha, c'mon. A little disclaimer that he's "probably" 5'7 1/2" towards the end. Let's call Joe Montana and get his opinion.

I posted this in the cuts thread, but I feel it's more applicable here.

He's the 2nd or 3rd string punt returner and the 4th string runningback who doesn't contribute on special teams because he's too small. The only reason he's on the roster is because he's been too good to cut. If some backs in front of him got hurt, he could play, and with Jones and Washington's uncertain contract situations, and Jones especially being a probable goner after this year, I think he's being stashed for next year.

If he gets any sort of injury in practice, they'll IR him and he'll make the team next year.

Heh, I probably know a poster or two from there from my Namath days on an obscure board in late '99.

Sounds exactly the same as Chrebet. Parcells couldn't stand the fact he couldn't cut him and look at how he turned out.

Umm not exactly - take a look at the 1995 NY Jets Wr's :

    Curtis Caesar
    Tyrone Davis
    Jeff Sydner
    Charles Wilson
    Ryan Yarborough
    Wayne Chrebet

Chrebet made sense we had no wr's to speak of

And Rich Kotite was our HC that year not Tuna .

Underneath my blue facepaint, I'm blushing now. I wouldn't call myself a closet Jets fan so much as I would say I'm addicting to football and sop up any coverage on can get. Living in NJ I get lots of Giants, Jets, & Eagles coverage, so I would call myself fairly knowledgeable about those teams.

And without Caulcrick being released it looks like that scenario could be happening. It wouldn't surprise me if the Jets offense this year is SCARY creative. Think back to 2006 when Schotty first came in (and hadn't yet been tethered down by Mangenious) I think Schotty will have the freedom to play like that but will have far more talent at his disposal than he had in 2006. When you factor Rex being Rex and Bart Scott fighting on the field, I think the Jets will be a fun team to watch this year!

Keeping Woodhead is useless. Doesn't make any sense.

He is a lock for the inactive list in all 16 games.

Why the heck does everyone see him playing slot receiver?
