Jones is a year older and Washington is expected to see an increased role in the offense. One of the concerns about Leon coming out of college was his durability and if this rears its head, it's not a bad idea to have depth. If the Jets want to be a "grind it out" kind of team, it's not a bad idea to have more running backs. And, as I stated earlier, I think Leon as a WR can help create the matchup problems that Schotty seems to enjoy creating.
Cincy will have to drop some HBs as well, I like one of the two guys they are going to drop way more than Woodhead.
If the Jets want to grind it out , Woodhead is obviously not the answer. Nice story, big heart but no room at the Inn.
Grind it out does not necessarily mean you need all power backs. Leon is a skatback and so is Woodhead. If this is going to be a running-back-intensive offense then it's probably a good idea to have a guy like Woodhead to replace Leon in case he gets dinged up as well as a guy like Greene in case Jones gets injured.
I think this thread got alittle off base with the whole color thing. I understand that we have 3HB's, and 1FB. We also have several WR that haven't stood out. So since DW has excellent hands as I have heard try him as a slot guy. That would fill depth at 2 positions. Jones Washington Greene (Woodhead) Richardson the other FB I can't spell Cocthery Clowney Stuckey Smith Davis (Woodhead) That is 11 people for 12 spots. Also, Davis has not impressed me at all, and could be easily 10 people for 11 spots. Please lets hear how he can't play WR. He is too small. He is only 5' 8" 190 pounds. Chrebet was 2" taller same weight. Does 2" mean that much for slot guy? Also, Ryan message was bust your ass, and you get a job.
Exactly, and how many teams carry multiple scatbacks, but in reality Leon is so much more - he is a game changer - Woodhead he's just a nice story - that's it. Bottom line is we need the extra blocking and power of Caulcrick, keeping Woodhead servers no purpose other than wasting a roster spot , its like keeping two kickers , you would never use two in one game and if you did you probably should replace both with a new one.
I was reading a little bit of Rod Boone's blog earlier and he commented on the fact Ryan told him that Woodhead had the best hands in the backfield, which includes washington. thats pretty impressive as far as im concerned. edit: found the boone articles http://www.newsday.com/sports/football/jets/the-boone-docks-1.1279166 http://www.newsday.com/sports/football/jets/jets-rb-woodhead-working-hard-to-prove-himself-1.1361067
I would agree with you if I was suggesting to use Woodhead in a conventional fashion, but I think he should be used in backfield packages with Leon to keep defenses from keying on Leon. I also think Schotty's shifting offensive schemes can create some serious matchup problems with Woodhead. Caulcrick does not give you the same kind of versatility.
You clearly have no idea what you are talking about which is painfully evident by your failure to correctly interpret the definition you cited. You would be best served by serving yourself which a much needed dose of basic education.
You put Leon and Woodhead in the same backfield , I sure hope to god that formation includes two "good" blocking TE's. Caulcrick doesn't give you versatility but he gives some much needed blocking at the point of attack. Did you watch the Ravens last year - Mcgahee/Rice/Mclain basically power football - with our Oline we have no need to play games . Rex's mentality is we're going to run it down your throat until you stop it. Leon gives us all the versatility we need , adding Woodhead is a wasted roster spot.
I also like the idea of having Leon and DW on the field at the same time but lining up in different positions, e.g. one in the backfield with the other lined up as a receiver out of the slot. Woodhead has superb quickness and speed, excellent hands and ability to explode in and out of his cuts with such effectiveness that he has the potential to become an outstanding receiver in the mold (and roughly the same size) as Steve Smith. But hey, we don't need a game changer at the WR position now do we?
I posted this a couple months back right after Ryan came out with the surprise receiver comments. http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=46676&highlight=role+welker
That doesn't even make sense.. Woodhead isn't that fast, probably can't block that well and he hasn't proven to be versatile or even effective against #1's. He isn't any better than Jones or Greene and he's not going to create matchup problems, so why wouldn't we just use a RB we already have to divert a defense? Caulcrick is a 250 lb RB that can be used as a HB, I assume can block, and being the only RB that size on the team, he gives the team another dynamic at RB, which Woodhead definitely would not. Greene 5'11" 227 Washington 5'8" 195 Woodhead 5'9" 195 Jones 5'10" 212 Caulcrick 6'0" 250
Read my post again. I like the idea of moving Woodhead around the field and creating matchup problems. He can line up in the slot, split, or even flare out of the backfield if the Jets choose to go with the appropriate formation. Jones and Greene are both power backs, Caulcrick would be another one of those. If that's what you want, fine, then we just disagree in our vision of what this backfield could/should be. But just because my rationale is different doesn't mean it's wrong.
are you sure you're not a closet Jets fan? I mean you are one of the better posters around, certainly top 3-5 on the opposing teams posters, but you have serious insight into the jets, more so than many jets fans on the board.... anyways I like caulcrick a lot, but at this point, he will slide through to the PS and Woodhead will not. So woodhead sticks and caulcrick slides. then should a greene/jones/trich get hurt, caulcrick gets moved up. It wouldnt matter that he isnt on the roster game day because he would be inactive (just like woodhead) if somebody were to get hurt...
Hey , I have an idea. Can Woodhead punt. After reading some of these posts I 'm surprised no one has made that suggestion yet . The guy had a good game against third string defenders. I think this says more about the Eagles depth than it does about Woodheads abillity to spread all over the field. If we didn't have Leon I could see a role , with him sorry , just don't see it.
