from Peter King's MMQB column....enjoy Jeaux. I know I did http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/peter_king/08/30/mmqb/3.html
I watched this game, and it was as if the Raiders were just standing around waiting for someone to run by them. My thoughts.... With all their supposed speed, it does not overcome overshooting tackles by running right by them, thus allowing the reciever to break into the open for big gains. Stanford Routt was terrible in this game. Number two corner may be a concern. Their first two options on offense are Miller and McFadden without much behind them. It seemed every other play was a swing pass to McFadden or a dump off in the middle to Miller. Louis Murphy has cement hands. Dropped a few passes and seemed glad one play was ruled an incomplete instead of a fumble. Even when Jamarcus was on the money, the recievers just plain dropped the ball, maybe they are waiting for the regular season to catch it. Those Raider announcers were flat out horrible, as are most during the preseason. But these guys had me laughing. Some gems.... On one crossing route to I believe Murphy, he was open, ball hit him in the hands, and he just dropped it right in the middle of the field. Announcer: "If that had worked there was no telling how far he would have ran" LOL yes, but you must catch if first. On another late INT by I believe Chris Johnson, he catches the ball on the five and advances to about the Raiders own 40. The announcers finally have something the yell about. "A few more blocks and HE COULD GO ALL THE WAY!!!!". Not. Seeing that sign come up on each commercial break "Raiders 2009: Pride and Poise" made me laugh as well as I thought of Cable's poise this offseason. I hate to pile on but that was the worst I have seen any team play this pre season. They have alot of work today being that this is routinely expected to be the dress rehearsal for the season. That being said, I thought Jamarcus was their best player Saturday, it was not all his fault.
This isn't true. My friend is a Raider fan so I recorded the game and we saw the whole thing after the Jet game. My recording cut off at 7:00 because I didn't set it to go over, but the whole game was shown. Ugly, but it was shown.
http://www.covers.com/articles/articles.aspx?theArt=172891&t=0 Sure was a nice showing from the Raiders against the Saints Saturday. Anyone out there man enough to admit they took Oakland +2.5? If so, make sure that’s the last time you’re on the Raiders this year. Exhibition or not, getting pounded 45-7 is ridiculous and really says something about the overall talent, coaching and character of this team. “This is embarrassing to me,” new Raiders coach Tom Cable said. You think? “A lot of times, we were getting up to the ball, getting set, and they were still trying to get lined up,” said Saints quarterback Drew Brees. This just in: The Saints like to run a little hurry-up offense … for about the last three seasons. The Saints’ first-team offense was expected to play into the second half. Instead, Brees and company sat down early in the second quarter. The Saints had 21 points and 225 yards on 29 plays in the first quarter. "Really the plan was to give them 'x' number of snaps and what happened was that we got those snaps earlier than expected," Saints coach Sean Payton told reporters Sunday. "Our plan was to go a half, come out in the second half and we thought we would've been close to 30 snaps there, but we got to that number a little quicker.” It was ugly from the start for the Raiders. JaMarcus Russell was sacked and fumbled on their third play. They turned the ball over three times total and committed 10 penalties. After having the 31st-ranked run defense in the league last year, they look like they have gotten worse. The Raiders have surrendered 634 rushing yards in three preseason games, including 232 by the Saints. You call pull out the “It’s preseason” card if you want, but that usually only applies if your problems are something fixable on the field. Things aren’t any better off the field for Al Davis’ flailing franchise. Reports have Cable getting in a fight and breaking a bone in the face of assistant coach Randy Hanson in early August. That kind of thing divides locker rooms and raises some serious concerns about the team’s leadership and direction. The Raiders’ season total on wins is 5.5. Hmmm …
never saw a team playing as bad as the raiders that game.. did we really lose against those guys last year.. hmy:
See 2002 Raiders preseason game versus the titans. I believe Titans won the PRACTICE GAME 38-0. Yea that was a great indicator what was going to happen. Comeon how long you been following football. Preseason means very little, especially when your purposely going away frrom the game plan, you will be using once the regular season starts. Hey I just hope the moderators give me a little time, to LMao off at the expense of Jet fans. When the season starts for real. That where we see which team the real pretenders and the contenders . This Raider offense is going to be very very very good when its all said and done this year. R$aiderjoe has spoken.
very very very good = 5-11 record maybe in a couple years...the Raiders will be very very very VERY good....and climb to 7-9.
http://scores.espn.go.com/nfl/recap?gameId=220815010 The preseason game in 2002 was 24-14, not 38-0. Even though they were sloppy in that game too, its hardly comparable to the thorough beating they received by the Saints, 45-7. Plus Gannon only played for 3 series then, Russell (your starter now) played well into the 3rd quarter and they still got hammered. While I agree, it is the preseason, the comparison of preseason 2002 and 2009 is bogus.
remember, raiderjoe said two years ago that the Raiders defense would be the best in the NFL. I wonder how that turned out...
