Code: Thursday, September 3 Tickets Rogers Centre | 7:07 PM ET NYY Chad Gaudin, RHP (5-10, 4.90) Yankees (85-48) @ TOR Ricky Romero, LHP (11-6, 3.95) Blue Jays (59-73) Scouting Report: Yankees: Gaudin will slot in to make a spot start for the Yankees on Thursday to open a four-game weekend series at the Rogers Centre. Gaudin was inserted after Sergio Mitre suffered a bruised right forearm courtesy of a line drive in his last start, leading the Yankees to be cautious. This will be Gaudin's second start since being acquired by the Yankees, having given New York 4 1/3 innings of scoreless, one-hit ball with five walks and five strikeouts on Aug. 19 at Oakland. Blue Jays: Romero yielded 13 baserunners over 5 1/3 innings of three-run ball last Saturday in a loss to the Red Sox at Fenway Park. Despite an 0-3 record and 8.83 ERA in four career starts against the Sox, the rookie left-hander is 11-3 with a 3.24 ERA when the opposition is not from Boston. In a pair of outings against the Yankees this season, Romero is 1-0 with a 4.38 ERA. Friday, September 4 Tickets Rogers Centre | 7:07 PM ET NYY Joba Chamberlain, RHP (8-4, 4.38) Yankees (85-48) @ TOR Roy Halladay, RHP (13-8, 3.13) Blue Jays (59-73) Scouting Report: Yankees: Though the Yankees won't reveal how many innings he'll pitch, they have confirmed that Chamberlain will remain on a five-day schedule for the rest of the season. He threw just three innings and 35 pitches last time out, against the White Sox, in the first test of the revamped "Joba Rules." Considering those rules, it is unlikely that the Yankees will allow him to pitch six innings on Friday, as they did in his last start against the Blue Jays, on Aug. 11. For his career, Chamberlain has a 2.25 ERA in 12 innings at Rogers Centre. Blue Jays: Halladay lost his second straight decision to the Red Sox -- and third overall -- on Sunday at Fenway Park, scattering seven hits and fanning six over six innings of four-run ball. The Toronto right-hander has lost three consecutive starts only twice before in his career, with the most recent stretch from April 17-29, 2008. In three outings against the Yankees this season, the Blue Jays ace is 1-1 with a 3.60 ERA and two complete games. Saturday, September 5 Tickets Rogers Centre | 1:07 PM ET NYY Andy Pettitte, LHP (12-6, 4.03) Yankees (85-48) @ TOR Brett Cecil, LHP (6-3, 5.42) Blue Jays (59-73) Scouting Report: Yankees: Pettitte turned in one of the best performances of his career on Monday at Baltimore, retiring the first 20 Orioles to face him in a breezy effort before a Jerry Hairston Jr. error allowed Adam Jones to reach base. A Nick Markakis single ended the no-hit bid, but Pettitte gladly settled for eight innings of one-run ball and a two-hit effort, also allowing a solo Melvin Mora homer while walking none and striking out eight. Pettitte last faced Toronto on Aug. 4 at the Rogers Centre and was a 5-3 winner, limiting the Blue Jays to one run on four hits in 6 2/3 innings. Blue Jays: This was originally going to be Cecil's final start of the season, but Toronto manager Cito Gaston has decided to give Cecil one more start following this one. The reason is because Cecil, a rookie, is coming off a tough start against the Rangers last Monday. He allowed seven runs, all earned, on nine hits over five innings. Cecil, though, still earned the victory, as the Blue Jays jumped out to an 11-0 lead and held on for a wild 18-10 victory. In his only career start against the Yankees earlier this season, Cecil left after only 3 2/3 innings, allowing seven runs, all earned, on nine hits. Sunday, September 6 Tickets Rogers Centre | 1:07 PM ET NYY Sergio Mitre, RHP (3-1, 5.65) Yankees (85-48) @ TOR Brian Tallet, LHP (5-9, 5.17) Blue Jays (59-73) Scouting Report: Yankees: Mitre will return from a bruised right forearm suffered in his last start to pitch on Sunday against the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre. Mitre is coming off his best start with the Yankees to date, having hurled 6 1/3 innings of scoreless, one-hit ball on Aug. 29 against the White Sox at Yankee Stadium. The Blue Jays have seen Mitre twice this season, as he hurled 4 1/3 innings of three-run ball on Aug. 5 at Toronto and five innings of five-run (three earned) ball on Aug. 10 in a losing effort in New York. Blue Jays: Tallet moved back into the rotation on Tuesday against the Rangers. He didn't fare too well, allowing four runs, all earned, on six hits over five innings with four walks and four strikeouts. Lifetime against the Yankees, Tallet has pitched well, going 1-1 with a 3.05 ERA in 23 games, including two starts.
7-5 Yankees in the 7th. Apparently Waldman printed out Bob Meusel's Wikipedia article and gave it to Posada, because Posada passed him in Yankees hits or something.
Really? Are they screwing with the rotation again? Shouldn't that be Pettitte's spot? Looks like they have Mitre scheduled for Sunday and are skipping over Burnette. What's up with that?
Cappy will like this, there are stats galore. http://umpbump.com/press/2009/09/01/yankees-war-pie/ http://bases.nbcsports.com/2009/09/yanks-threaten-record-for-balance-of-power.html.php
