After watching Favre's cheap shot block last night it got me thinking. Why the hell aren't CBs blowing up the QB at the line like any other WR? I see WRs get laid out at the line all the time. Why the special treatment for the QB?
you think that would end the wildcat? QBs are usually much bigger and sort of used to be blown up by DL and LBs comming at them at full speed, why would they care about 200lbs CBs?
If I'm a DC I put my biggest corner across from the QB and tell him to jam the hell out of the guy. Maybe that could help limit the Wildcat usage.
I didn't pay much attention to the Ravens-Phins playoff game last year, maybe I didn't even watch it, but I do know they say that Ryan completely shut down the Wildcat in that game. I would think a lot of DCs made note of that and have plans for anybody who uses the wildcat this year.
DING DING DING! THIS is how you defend the Wildcat. Your quarterback isn't playing quarterback? Good, we're gonna FUCK HIM UP. Chad Pennington takes three good licks this season before the Miami Wildcat is shelved for good.
Why the hell not put your biggest lineman across from the split out QB? Failing that, your biggest, meanest linebacker. Hell, even a young LB who is desperate to hang on to his roster spot. Tell him, "Kill that guy and you have a contract next year." No more wildcat. I just don't get it.
You better be ready to adjust if they go in motion at the last minute or your hungry LB might end up in single coverage on a speedy WR. Or they can go in motion to the Wildcat. It's not like they always announce when they're going to do it.
the qb has to make a move at the defender as if to block otherwise it's a personal foul.it's the warren sapp rule from the packer game when he blew up chad clifton i believe.so watch closely and you won't see alot of q.bs move right off the snap so the d.b can't really draw a bead on him
even better. put a DE or DT in front of them. imagine jenkins tossing qb's within 5 yards or qb's half assing it as a distraction on a counter and getting leveled.
If the QB lines up the wide receiver, the defender can blow him up within 5 yards regardless of what the QB does. He is a receiver once he lines up at the position.
I can imagine Bart Scott lining up over a QB in the "Wild Pussy" formation and absolutely wrecking their world. I would love to see that....
And how do you think that will work? the QB just standing around and waiting for the blow? He doesn?t have to get on a route, he got all the space in the world, to avoid that hit. And even if that would work, it works once, and for the second time, when you run a Wildcats, you just put your Backup in there.
