Yeah, Carl Banks is the designated homer for Giants home preseason broadcasts, but he wasn't at all incorrect with Lito. Whoever called Lito 'Ty Law' was spot on, I felt like it was 2005 again. The sade thing is, if it's motivation that he lacks, we alredy know that benching him isn't going to do a damned this to motivate him.
I can't remember the last time benching a vet did much for his subsequent play, anyway. Usually poor play in a vet is just the vet playing out the string for his last contract, riding his previously earned reputation. It happens.
He was only burned on 2 plays, and 1 of the 2 plays rhodes was also burned, luckily (smith) i believe dropped the pass. the fact that we didnt have much pressure did not help lito. he will be alright as long as we can provide some pressure when the regular season starts.
If we can put consistent pressure on the QB then all of our CB's will be better. If we can't then even Revis is going to get burned more than you'd expect. It's the pass rush dummy! With it a pass defense always works. Without it a pass defense always fails.
We need a better pass rush and a better performance from our #2 CB. The guy looked awful and should have been called for 2 more PI penalties. The Texans receivers won't be dropping wide open passes like the Giants receivers did.
It's not that simple. A good pass rush goes a long way. It doesn't matter how good your secondary is - if the opposing QB has all day, he'll complete a pass. On the flip side, it doesn't matter how good your pass ruhs is - if there's a guy who is always open, the QB will zip it to him. We need someone to step it up this year at CB2. It was definitely our biggest weakness on defense last year and almost cost us that all-important Thursday night game against the Pats.
Lito is fine. He is going to see an inordinate amount of action because of Revis. He should be able to hold his own. Our secondary has the potential to be very nasty..DR, LS, JL, KR...lot of upside.
Yeah, this isn't the Giants team of just a couple of years ago, with above average receivers. Smith is probably the best. Some of my friends who are Giants fans are concerned about their receivers. And yet these same guys made Lito look bad. Smith could have gotten a TD off Lito there, and it was no thanks to Lito he didn't. He's just not been the same since his injuries. The thing is without having confidence in both your CB's, it's harder to run some of the defensive plays Ryan likes to use.
it's because some fans can not sleep at night unless they are calling some one on the team a bust, trash, washed up and so forth. lito looked fine the first 2 games, looked pretty bad this game. and again to those who keep bringing up him getting burned by smith, rhodes was also at fault on the play. quit nit picking people.
This is just not true. Find me a good pass rush that did not turn into an effective pass defense overall. You can't do it. The Jets have never made the playoffs without being able to put pressure on the QB. This was even true in the weird year in 2006, when the Jets rush defense blew chunks but they managed to make the playoffs anyway. The thing that keyed them on defense that year? The blitz packages that allowed them to put pressure on the QB when they needed to. You could put two journeymen CB's out there (as the Jets did in 2006) and still do just fine against the pass if you had the ability to apply pressure when you needed to. The Steelers have won 2 Super Bowls in the last 4 years with 2 journeymen CB's. They did this by giving the opponent not enough time to find the open receivers that journeymen occasionally allow. What people don't understand about CB's (and WR's) is that the contribution they make is so dependent on other factors that their impact on a team's ability to win is almost negligible. If you can't find a decent journeyman CB to play a position then obviously you're going to wind up hurting in the defensive backfield and you're going to give up too many scores in the air. But the plus effect of going from a journeyman CB to a star is the smallest in football. A great CB's main effect on the game is that he removes a WR from the opposing gameplan and effectively forces a 10 on 10, which can go either way depending on the strength of the other 20 players involved. Even when he is having his strongest effect on the game all that he is doing is reducing the scope of the competition.
I hope so, I never paid any attention to him before. The Giants' broadcasters recognized him from Eli picking on him in Philly, that's not a good sign.
If Lito was that great, the eagles wouldn't have traded him for a fifth round pick. I know there were some issues with the coach and FO over his contract and attitude and stuff like that. BUT, you don't let a starting caliber, former pro-bowl corner go for a 5 unless there's a drop off in production somewhere and he isn't the player he once was.
Ike Taylor is a very good CB he isn't a journeyman by any means. The Steelers also have the best safety in the NFL on their team in Polamalu. You can make an argument for Reed or Sanders but you're just spliting hairs. This guy is a game changer in the secondary.
We all hope so, but he looked as bad as Drew Coleman last night. He was grabbing the guy's jersey and making it obvious. He was getting burned on easy routes. He looked absolutely terrible. If he doesn't cut that crap out and step it up, he'll probably be covering the slot receiver by week 5.
Sanders is a great Safety, not as good in coverage as either Reed or Polamalu but the guy is game changer on D and I would love to have him.
