Vern just needs to use his hands better when he is engaged and he will have a lot more of those hits.

I like his effort, and at this point of the preseason thats all you can ask for.

Reassuring? Watch the play again...NO ONE BLOCKED HIM.

You or I could have blown up David Carr if they gave us a free run at him.

After watching the slo-mo again, I guess there was some incidental helmet to helmet, but I do not think Gholston did it intentionally. VG just wanted to get that sack so bad. He also caused a fumble on the play.

I still see this as very positive.

While I agree he didn't have to do anything for his free rush there, the good thing is that Ryan's defensive schemes often allow someone a free lane to the QB with no one in there way. The fact that he completely destroyed Carr and forced the fumble was nice.

    Baby steps.

Now let's work on not going helmet to helmet ...

Well, against the Ravens... when he went unblocked, he pretty much gave up on the play anyway. So, I guess you could call this progress. It's nice to at least see him do anything. Maybe he will remember what it's like to make a tackle and wake up a little bit. I still think he sucks, though. No way do I want this guy starting in Pace's spot.

Can we please calm down with the enthusiasm...the guy was drafted with the 6th overall pick in the draft, and we're gonna cream our pants because he hit a QB in a preseason game?

Didn't you figure out by now that you're not allowed to give a constructive critique of Gholston unless it's 100% positive?

LOL, no one was near him, unblocked and a free path to Carr, whippee-doo-daa, he's a bust and a stiff, I am so glad we didn't end up with him and landed Mayo instead. Thanks Donut Boy...........

I'd like to hope that he wouldn't fck up a clean shot at the QB. I don't think there was anything wrong with that hit, it looked like a text book tackle to me, he kept his head up and everything. These helmets protrude so far out from yoru face that you can't help knock them together.

The one where he took a horrible angle on Carr though was bad... he needs to fix that.

How about when Gholston nearly tripped over himself chasing Carr?

I can't pretend to think he just "wakes up"

Yep...David Carr has no clue what it is like to be sacked.

At least Carr was a man and got up.

It's nice to see that you still fail to add anything of worth to any conversation. It makes me feel good to think that most Pasts fans are as useless as you.

It was the first time since he has been in the NFL that he got that close to a QB. You can't blame him for not knowing.

He stays engaged with a blocker because he can't shake a blocker. I watched every defensive snap in slow motion. The guy is a non-entity. 1 tackle, 27 yards down the field. 1 "sack" where he was unblocked. He's a spectator. Put in Westerman and let the Ghost watch from the bench.

I'm convinced that Carr is indestructible. Any mortal would've died in Houston.

From looking at it multiple times I think it was a bit of a cheap penalty. The helmets did touch but it wasn't an intentional helmet-to-helmet strike... I really think the NFL needs to get rid of that rule. The only time roughing the passer should ever be called is on a Mark Gastineau style late hit. If anything, the Giants offensive line should've been flagged and fined for letting Gholston in like that.
