Unless they like what they have. Walter is ok as the #2, and I don't see O'Connell outlasting Gutierrez, THEN getting cut in favor of Hoyer...only to see Gutierrez return and push Hoyer off the roster.
They do like Hoyer... also on PFT they mention that Belichik has always like Feeley (he has torched them a couple time ala Pennington) and may be looking in that direction, since it appears he has moved down a rung in Philly and they like kolb as the 3rd guy to develop. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/08/30/pats-feeling-feeley/ Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reports that the Patriots' decision to part with quarterback Kevin O'Connell could be the first step in a plan that results in veteran A.J. Feeley landing in New England.
Ummm... what? We didn't move up to pick Gholston, first of all. Secondly, I was praying, PRAYING that we would move up in that draft to pick up Chris Long. And lastly, I don't recall much Jets cock-sucking at all after that pick. Even from our fans. The difference isn't that Pats fans said "KoC will be great," just like every other fan base says about their picks. The difference is the "unbiased" media decided it was a great draft pick for no other reason than because Bill Beli made it.
I was being creative like you were, although there certainly was alot more media frenzy over the Gholston pick. Most Pats fans hardly noticed that they picked a QB in the 3rd round, much less think he was the next coming, though we had some faith that he probably could play, if the team's scouts thought he could. We knew (or thought we knew at the time) that Brady was gonna be around long after this guy moved on to some other team. The media certainly didn't make any big deal of that pick. I'm sure there are plenty of things to get on the Pats, the media, and their fans about. But you kinda made that one up. And the media did make a big deal of the Gholston pick...
The Pats waiving Ben Watson will be just another example of how terrible they've been drafting in recent years. I wanted Brace to be a NY Jet so bad, but I'm glad the way our Draft turned. We'll see how all those 2nd rounders shape up in the new couple of years.
Didn't see that coming, he was a project coming out and I didn't expect him to be any good for a couple of years..he has physical upside.
He was drafted in '04 and while he has never turned into the Ben Coats type people thought he could be coming in, he hasn't been a complete bust. They're second rounders so far this year are looking good. I like Chung a lot even though he's dropped a few punts and missed a few tackles.
