Stafford cannot really be compared with Sanchez at this point. The circumstances that each are playing under are completely different. The Jets have a good team with an excellent offensive line. The Lions are the worst team I have ever seen. I don't know why Stafford was considered the best QB coming out this year since I haven't seen him play. But it is clear from the last two games that Sanchez has something. He has good NFL arm strength, moves well, is a natural leader, and remains composed under pressure. In the next couple of years he will move up into the top echelon of quaterbacks. Stafford may ultimately end up being better, but if he does he will have to get there by a much different route than Sanchez.
SJSU women are whore. I should know. Seriously though, who really gives a shit whether or not we nickname him dirty. Doing dirt in sports terms is usually a good thing. Nasty, filthy, disgusting....all the same. Filthy Sanchez just doesnt have the same ring. Dirty Sanchez, much better. We say it with admiration. I'm actually going to have a custom Jets jersey #6 with D. Sanchez on the back. It's going to be awesome.
This is an excellent post Stafford is gonna have a really tough time, especially because the Lions look like they're seriously considering starting him this season. But you cannot teach the kind of raw talent that he has. Plus, he showed at Georgia that he is a very coachable guy which is always a bonus. Both are very, very talented players. Right now Sanchez is in a better position to succeed, but I hope that both of them can tap into their full potential.
Really? You know that for a fact? Being called "Dirty Sanchez" is just as insulting to him as being called a wetback? How are facts arrived at in your world? I could make one phone call and have an answer for you in a matter of minutes, but I'd rather not since that phone call would be to a woman in her 60s and since he's like a son to her. That and the fact that she found the name wrong but amusing tells me that she probably wouldn't like you very much for equating the two terms.
Oh how little you really know. He was desperate in the days leading up to the draft to become a Jet. It's a big part of why we were willing to move up. From the moment he met with team management and the coaching staff, he wanted to play in New York. He had as much of a choice as anyone has in the draft. Yes, a Trojan is for life. That's the way it is with any university. Yours is only special because the entire student population thinks it is. It's a university which has gone from good to great academically in the past decade and has always had solid athletic programs. It also has a profound sense of self-importance that comes in handy given the neighborhood surrounding that school. A whole lot easier to thumb your nose at the crime and poverty right next door. Every time I come across an obnoxiously uppity Trojan like yourself, I have to work awfully hard to remind myself of all of the wonderful alums I'm friends with. Thank you so much for doing your best to perpetuate the stereotype.
Having heard the explanation for the nickname "dirty" I think it is both disgusting and derogatory and has nothing to do with Sanchez as a person or a player. If it is potentially racially offensive, then we should lose it immediately. Why does he need a nickname anyway? What is Peyton Manning's nickname? Brady's? Brees'? If a nickname develops over time that is both appropriate and tasteful, then so be it. I doubt you will ever see any portion of the media ever refer to him as "dirty." I just want him to be a quality NFL QB.
I don't particularly care for it either, but it's sure as hell not as racially offensive as the term that a certain other poster tosses around, if at all.
Its not like the Jets fanbase gave him that nickname. Just a few people choose to call him that. I think it is ridiculous and stupid, I will never use it. More likely, it will be used as an insult from opposing fans. But you should know by now how Jets fans are. Anyway, seems like all of the people discussing this nickname prefer Sanchez over Stafford.
but what about Stafford's preseason and practices? That doesn't hold as much weight as what Sanchez is doing?
I put a lot more weight on what I see in real game action. Stafford impressed me in the best defensive and most intense conference in college football, that says a lot. It says more to me than his preseason results with the worst team in football history (and, to be honest, he didn't look half bad yesterday.) Sanchez was also a great college QB, he just didn't play as many games against good opponents. I think that in the Jets system, which will protect him, he may ultimately develop into a better player than Stafford. But put Stafford on the Jets and Sanchez on the Lions and I'd take Stafford without hesitation.
this is the biggest homer poll/thread of ALL TIME. lets see here we are 3 preseason games into their career and everyone is sure which one they would rather have. lets get a tampa bay and a oakland fan in here to see what rational people with no attachment think.
College Stats: Stafford: 51 TD 33 INT. 7,731 yards passing. Sanchez: 41TD 16 INT. 3,965 yards passing. I can't find their team records right now, but career starts is what puts Stafford ahead, along with less talent around him.
You see a lot of GA Bulldog games here in Atlanta, and although Stafford was ok, I was never really impressed with him as a starting QB, he'll be a good QB in the pro's but there are certain intangibles Sanchez has over Stafford, plus the fact that Sanchez played in a pro set, I'd take him over Stafford any day.
i'll stick with sanchez b/c we can call him 'dirty' which is really funny. wonder what howard 'look at that little monkey run' cossell would have called him...
