Will swirling winds sink Sanchez?

I recently watched a segment on Sports Center about a group of people that feel Sanchez will fail for the Jets because of what they perceive as his lack of arm strength, the cold and bad weather in the northeast, and the swirling winds at the Meadowlands. Wondering if anyone is buying this take? My initial thoughts are that his arm is plenty strong enough for the Meadowlands, he has big hands, he throws a tight spiral, and after this season its unknown what the winds will be like in the new stadium.

Additionally I read an interesting article where Chad Pennington was saying that the secret to getting the ball where you want in the Meadowlands swirling winds isn't so much arm strength as it is throwing a tight spiral. According to the Chad, a tight spiral will cut thru the wind, but wobbler won't most of the time no matter how much velocity is behind it. I guess he would know, he played there long enough with some success and without that coveted big arm.

I think Sanchez will be ok and has an arm that is stronger then many are giving him credit for. I think he will learn how to cope with cold inclement weather as the years go passing by.

My greatest concern about the unknown is this: Can he stand firm in the pocket wait till the last second when he is about to be whacked, deliver the ball take that big hit get up and keep playing game in game out. Any thoughts?

It never stop Chad and his weak ass arm, so I'm not worried.

his arm is stronger than Chad's. He'll survive

And most scouts said he can make all the throws and has an above average arm. He doesn't have a cannon, but he's no floater like some QBs we know.

Let's not shit the bed just yet.

If ESPN said it, it can't be true.

Since when does Sanchez have a 'weak' arm? I've read reports that he has a very capable NFL arm and it was never considered an issue by scouts league-wide.

I don't think the wind will affect 98% of his passes because they will be short dump-offs to Leon Washington.

I dunno, his arm strength has looked fine to me. I read a quote from Keller saying he has a very strong arm. This is a guy who was catching balls from Favre last year.

I'd be more concerned w/him getting the snap off before the playclock expires than his arm strength.

He looks pretty strong to me. Much stronger than Favre the final 5 weeks last year. Favre really makes anyone else seem pretty good. :) Poor Vikings fans.

Can we find anything else to panic over before he plays his first game? Maybe he will get hit and go out for the year.

Couldn't have said it any better. What Chad said is absolutely right, having that spiral is very important. If there's one thing Sanchez has proven so far this preseason, is that he throws one hell of a pretty ball.

I follow alot of College prospects and believe me... Sanchez has a better than average arm, not the cannon of Carson Palmer, but his arm is better than most NFL QBs. This thread is much ado about "nuttin".

I know there are alot of knuckleheads here hate Phil Simms...I don't and respect his opinion.

Here's Simms take on Sanchez...Pay attention to 2:25.

according to ESPN, the thick, heavy mud/clay beneath the stadium causes the play clock to run slightly faster due to xs gravity. Less time to call and adjust plays will cause Sanchez to fail in the meadowlands.

Sanchez will be just fine, his arm is way above average and he throws a nice spiral, also like someone said, I doubt he will be airing it out on every down so I wouldn't worry about it.

Did anyone else catch Simms comment last night.

"Sanchez has great footwork, one of the best in the league already".

I was amazed that no one picked up on that.

Jimmy Hoffa's karma will raise from the dead and put a curse on Sanchez.

i couldngt have either. maybe this is just espn making up for the fellatio that they performed on him last week.

i am not concerned about the kids arm strength in the least.

Maybe that's why Favre sucked last year, he can't throw spirals.

And I'm also interested to see how he handles rain+wind.
