Just curious because this is such a fascinating topic hardly ever discussed here: Who is the best former Jet playing elswhere? James Farrior Chad Pennington I was speaking with Ollie and MbGreen and they thought it would make for an interesting discussion....... Discuss please?
Voted for Kenyon, but beer was a close second. Kenyon Coleman was an anchor at DE. He did exactly what you want a 3-4 DE to do, and he did it very well. The guy we picked up from Baltimore was a good replacement, but I never thought Coleman got the respect on these boards that he deserved. The rest of the guys in the poll are scrubs. As for guys not on the list... meh. None of them are world beaters. I own Moss and Penny jerseys, so that pretty much sums up how I felt about them, but Moss started favoring sidelines on punt returns, and Chad was never getting us to a SB. Guys like Washington, Harris, Rhodes, and Revis have me excited for the future of the Jets, so I'd rather live in the present.
No doubt Vilma and Abraham currently. Mawae is still good, but not great. Pennington had 19TD's and 7INT's last year. Thats really good. Farrior is still great. Chris Baker will return to his touchdown maker nickname in New England. Coles should have a good year opposite OchoCinco and getting thrown to by Palmer. Ex-Jets should have a good 2009 season.
Meanwhile back at the ranch, Farrior sprains his knee away vs. SF when he was having a great game and Garrison Hearst beats us in OT with a 96 yd. crusher. Go Jets!
Definitely Abe! Wish he stayed healthy and wish he stayed a Jet. He was great, and he made Ellis great too.
You're right how could I have missed Chris Baker, Ben Graham, Kyle Brady Eric Coleman. Damn...............
that was a good one he played well in kc for a number of years after he left new york. there was a point that most of their secondary was ex jets and they were in the playoffs every year.
Watching James Farrior play for the Steelers frustrates me more than watching any other ex-JET. Parcells drafted this guy with the 8th overall pick back in 1997. For whatever reason, Parcells put him on special teams from the beginning & never inserted him into the full time starting lineup. I do recall that we had a solid LB core at the time, but it seemed to me more like Parcells was playing his typical mindgame BS with the guy. Farrior started the 2001 season & did great. Of course, Bradway & Herm let him go in free agency. We got nothing. Meanwhile the guy has been solid w/Pittsburgh for 7 seasons. A recent ex-Jet who might not turn into something we regret letting go, but who in my opinion will turn into a solid starter is Abram Elam.
Letting John Abraham go meant we were able to draft Nick Mangold. I would do that trade every day & twice on Sundays.
