They could put the transition tag on him, get a 2nd rounder back. Dunno what the cost would be though and probably not worth it in the end.
You don't get any compensation for the transition tag. All it offers is the right of first refusal to the team that uses it. If they don't match an offer sheet then they get no draft picks. See Steve Hutchinson.
Clemens blew his chance. All he had to do was put in a solid performance in camp and in PS and he would have won the job. He played not to lose and he lost.
No. Orton has looked bad this offseason. Prior to his injury last season, he had 7 games in which he was 177 of 230 for 1669 yards, 10 TDs, and only 4 INTs. He never looked as good coming back from injury. If he can regain that form, he'll be just fine in Denver.
Well, that settles that, I guess. Clemens will definitely not be here next year. Now, I think the door is wide open for him to go to a divisional rival, but who cares.
Glad Rex named his guy. This lets the team move forward and Sanchez will get the majority of reps in camp / pratice now. Clemens has no trade value. For the 4th consecutive preseason he has failed to win a starting job and has shonw no upside.
Guess which teams were in the bottom 3rd of the league in pass attempts? The Ravens, Falcons, Titans, Vikings, Giants, and Panthers. Guess which teams were in the top 3rd of the league in rushing attempts? The Ravens, Falcons, Titans, Vikings, Giants and Panthers. Run the football, let him have a simple passing game.
No, it's the 3rd preseason game. The starters generally play the entire first half at least and then sit the following week. Sanchez will get plenty of time against the Giants. I'm not expecting him to be much better than last week, but that's basically my expectation for the first few weeks of the regular season as well.
I didn't say that. I said I think orton is terrible and Clemens has a better shot at helping denver win. Yes, Clemens is a career backup at best but orton is no starter.
Defense or no Defense....21-12 says Orton has proven he can win in this league.....moreso than Clemens in that regard.
Not if it's uncapped. Then he's an RFA and we apply a low tender. He's a cheap backup, or we get a pick.
Again, before his injury he was completing 77% of his passes and was on pace for 3800 yards, 23 TDs and 9 TDs. Those aren't just starting QB numbers, they're Top 10 QB numbers.
I like this thinking. For what he's worth out there to somebody else he's at the very least a cheap backup who knows our system, our playbook and our players. He's much more valuable here than anywhere else.
