Regardless of who has played the better out of KC and MS for the moment, what would benefit Sanchez, and in the long run for the Jets?

I think if you start Sanchez, you live with that decision for the entire season. First of all, if they bench KC and then strip Sanchez and tell KC to come back in, they're going to look like amature hour. Second and most important, that will strip the kid of any confidence he's built.

You can start KC and bench him for Sanchez, but I'd rather not even go there. Just start Dirty and get it over with. It seems to be 6 of 1, half a dozen of the other, so go with the future.

If we were a lock for the playoffs then I might think starting Clemens for a few games would be a good idea. I don't think we are and for that reason definitely start Sanchez week 1. Both Atlanta and Baltimore were in the same boat last year. They had no aspirations of the playoffs and went with the rookies to give them an opportunity to learn.

but what if we end up in a Brady Quinn scenario??? i dont want clemens going into the season and racking up numbers and then having sanchez and his million sit on his ass

Clemens hasn't shown that he will be significantly better than Sanchez even this year.

Go with Sanchez. He's got a great offensive line and running game to relieve pressure from him, let him get into the fire and learn.

you start Sanchez out of the gate.

The kid comes off like he's got a great head on his shoulders......he needs the experience to evolve into his potential. Peyton Manning took his lumps in his first year...and he turned out pretty damn good.

If Clemens was blowing us out of the water with stellar play....I'd probably let Sanchez sit and learn....but Clemens isn't....so there's no use in delaying Sanchez's learning curve.

That's exactly what we want. If Clemens lights it up, we should have a good season, we'll get a first day draft pick for him at the end of all that and we have our franchise QB in Sanchez, who's had a season to learn the offense.

If we end up in a "Brady Quinn" scenario, we start Sanchez because DA sucks cock.

With regard to his development, I don't think it matters too much whether he starts this year or not. On the other hand, you can't start him week 1 and then bench him if he struggles.. unless he's completely making a fool of himself week in and week out.

An indecisive coach may just cost us the next two years of competitive play. We have to bite the bullet and let the kid get his reps in real time game play. Kellen Clemens could probably start and get some wins , but it takes away from Sanchez being exposed to the speed and furocity of the NFL level , which could ultimately be his undoing.

I want him thrown to the wolves.

Enough great QB's have had horrid first seasons and bounced back.

We can have a more accurate idea of how he will do after 2 seasons.

I’m happy things went the way they did with Sanchez. He got knocked on his ass in a hostile environment, against a top-notch defense. He looked lost, yet still rallied to throw a good touchdown pass.

Sanchez’s TD drive was impressive, but it had a lot to do with Leon Washington.(Thank God for Leon Washington).

Sanchez really needs to improve his pocket presence. This is not the PAC-10 anymore, sir. You are not going to have 45 seconds to throw, and more importantly, you will be hit. Sanchez loved to run out of the pocket, backwards and sideways. Either step up or move side to side, don’t run twenty yards backwards. It doesn’t work for me in Madden and its not going to work in the NFL.

Now people might say that on his TD pass, Sanchez effectively ran out of the pocket and created on the run for the touchdown. But if you look at it again, Sanchez was not under that heavy a rush, and more importantly, Leon was being single covered by Ray Lewis. Sanchez could have easily made that throw in the pocket, and he wouldn’t have drawn a safety over to that side of the field like he did on that play.

Sanchez also might want to think about looking off a receiver once in a while. This isn’t the Rose Bowl, your receivers aren’t running around wide open all over the field.

Finally, I don’t need to hear Sanchez tell Michelle Tafoya how great it was that he bounced back and threw a Touchdown after his rough start. I know it was big, Mark, you don’t have to tell me. Please don’t fall into the Chad trap of telling us how great you are and what you are doing right. I have eyes, I know what you are doing, you don’t have to tell me.

And its obvious Kellen is not a starter. I like the guy, but this team will be Sanchez’s in Houston on Opening Day. For good or bad, I feel like we are in for more feast or famine performances this season from Sanchez. But that’s not a bad thing, as long as he continues to improve.

Honestly, I would have liked to have seen one more drive from Sanchez last night. For most of his night, he looked upset and confused. I want to know if this kid has it in him to bounce back when things don't go according to plan, which didn't seem to be the case earlier in the game.

I want to see him again in the preseason. Up until last night I was saying "Throw him to the wolves." After last night, I'd rather let Clemens take the beatings until November, let the kid learn the playbook, then let him try to finish the season off on a good note to build off of.

Either way we're not making the playoffs. My only fear is that this kid will get knocked around too much, have his confidence broken, and be one more bust on the Jets' first round pile.

Just remember for every bust that started right away (Carr, Couch) there are/were some great quarterbacks who took their lumps all year in their rookie season and turned into Hall of Famers (Aikman, Peyton).

Sanchez has NEVER faced any sort of adversity on the football field. He needs to experience adversity just as much as he needs to experience success

im sorry what i saw last night, sanchez isn't quite ready for nfl play. While clemens may not win us any games this year, i garuntee sanchez loses at least two games for us this year due to inexperience. Let him learn, clemens deserves a chance anyway i think. You can want and wish for sanchez to be the starter because hes a pretty boy and hes the number 5 pick and all that, but it doesnt mean hes actually ready. He s played 1 season of college football essentially. Well see i guess...

sanchez faced the best defense in the league with his first start on MNF and he recovered and still scored a TD.

You have to start him, and you can't be timid about it. Kellen Clemens hasn't shown himself as anything better than a back-up NFL quarterback. And that's fine. Mediocre players should know they're mediocre. It saves so much time. Don't destroy poor Kellen by leading him to believe that he can be a starter. That's just cruel. At the same time, don't pay Mark Sanchez to sit around and watch second rate quarterbacking.

You let Kellen start and see how he does. If he completely sucks, give him 3 weeks. If he performs well, give him until he starts to suck. If he can get us to 8-8 or better, give him the whole season.

If forced to decide right now, you have to go with Sanchez.

    A) Sanchez has held his own against Clemens and neither one has emerged a "winner." That shouldn't be the case. Clemens has much more NFL experience and been in our system under Schotty a lot longer and still has not been able to distance himself, so something is wrong right there. He should be miles ahead of this rookie and is not. Start Sanchez.

    B) Clemens' recent string of INTs really bothers me. He knows our DEF well enough to play it smart and avoid this kind of exhibition, yet can't manage to avoid those costly turnovers even while knowing he's battling for a very job in the NFL. Turnovers are a killer (see Brett Favre, Games 12-16, 2008). We can't go into a season with that again. No way will Rex Ryan debut his NFL coaching career with that going on, and Clemens has demonstrated that he can't keep that under control. Start Sanchez.

    C) The entire world knows that Sanchez was drafted to ultimately start. So you start him and you avoid the guesswork on the part of all the other teamates who know it's only a matter of time. Being tentative in this team business is never good and the rest of the OFF needs to get used to this kid's style of play. You start him and you don't pull him unless he gets injured or really, really starts to stink up the field, which I doubt. Clemens has reasonably demonstrated that he's a career backup now, so let him assume that role behind Sanchez and let's get on with the season under one, declared, starting QB that the team can gell around.
