Didn't catch much of this one but sounds like Beckett once again got lit up. On the plus side, he settled down at the end. 2 out of 3 would have been better but with the starters that was hard to expect. I'd say the division race is just about over barring some insane '07 Rockies run by the Sox in Sepetember and that's alright I guess. Once the playoffs start nobody gives a crap who won the division.
I'm not sure how much a closer close to free agency is gonna get in a trade but I hope this happens. Papelbon doesn't look the same as he did in '07 and he's trending down with his peripherals. As he gets older and his velocity drops he could become much worse unless he gets back his splitter that used to be nasty. At either rate I'm almost positive that he actually is as big of a douche as he seems. He says inflammatory, stupid shit from time to time in the press and by all private accounts he rubs a lot of people the wrong way.

Looks like Pettitte wants to come back for at least another year. It will be hard to say no unless something happens in the next few weeks. Plenty of teams (Boston too) will want him if we don't. What does Pettitte have to do with Hughes? When the calendar says April 2010, Hughes will be our #4 starter, and if Pettitte is still here (which I hope he is) he will be the #5 starter. That will make our rotation: Sabathia, Burnett, Chamberlain, Hughes, Pettitte. ------------- I wound up missing almost all of Saturday and Sunday. It's the first time in many years I missed most of a Yankees/Sox series. It sucks that Burnett struggled, but damnit, wtf with Posada? I know it was mentioned earlier, but this guy can't get on the same page with pitchers. It's time to make Posada the full-time DH. Nice to have taken the series. Now it's just a matter of keeping the fire stoked through the rest of the grind so we keep pushing forward in the playoffs. I'd definitely say the Sox have proven they're not to be counted out now though. The division is most likely out of reach, but they're the sure favorite for the WC at this point, and a short series can go either way.
Umm, possibly never pitching effectively again? Dr. Andrews repaired his shoulder. At best, I'd say Wang won't even be seen in pinstripes until mid-2010. Which might be just fine, since Hughes will probably have an inning count a lot like Joba's. I'd say worry about Wang when he shows he is actually coming back. And I'm pretty sure that's what the Yankees will do.
OK, but the Red Sox will not necessarily win the wild card. I'd say they have a 45-50% chance. Better than the other teams, but the Rays and Rangers aren't going away. Speaking of which, I'm back in Colorado. I went to two Rockies games in 2007 and they went on their huge run starting that week. The rest of the NL better watch out. :smile: I'm going to try to scalp tickets on Tuesday or Wednesday night. As soon as I got into the rental car yesterday, the Rockies began their comeback from down 2-0 against Lincecum. They scored a run immediately. They won 4-2.
This team is looking legit, focus on 2009. The Yanks just put the Sox to sleep, focus on the Angels, not the fucking 2010 rotation. The 2010 rotation? Really? Jesus fucking Christ...unbelievable.
