He's an 11 time pro-bowler in 14 years. I don't think Gholston will be any better this year. However, I do think he will be decent/good next year. Maybe sign Brooks to a 1 year deal? Opinions? Along with him, Why not Marvin Harrison?
He can't rush the passer.... he's old... doesn't fit the 3-4.... we don't need an ILB... We'd probably be the last team to even consider signing this guy.
Yeah but in a 3-4, if he were even given a shot to play, he'd be an ILB... 4-3 DE = 3-4 OLB. You know what I'm sayin'.
Another over-the-hill-one-year-deal-quick-fix? No thanks. Since when was LB a desperate need on this team anyway?
What are you talking about? We are already set at ILB. IF he was signed, it would only be to hold down Pace's spot at OLB until he came off suspension.
UGH. IF he was for some fucked up reason signed he'd provide depth at ILB. You think a 230 pound cover 2 LB would play OLB in our scheme? No. Point is, he doesn't fit either position and it was a horrible suggestion to begin with.
I have an idea. We should sign every "has-been" that is way past their prime for a relatively large contract that they do not deserve. great post
Because weight is everything, right? Just like combine stats were everything for Gholston. Can you honestly look yourself in the mirror and say you are comfortable with the vacancy left by Pace for the first 4 games? I'm not saying we need to sign Derrick Brooks, but I do think that we need to bring in a veteran to hold down Pace's side until he returns to the lineup.
Can you honestly look yourself in the mirror and say you are comfortable with the fact that you know ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY NOTHING about how the 3-4 works. How in the world is lil old derrick brooks and his decrepid 220lb body going to taken on 325 lb right tackles? Dont worry, ILL WAIT................ Im not gonna go into detail about what a 3-4 olb needs to do because Ive done it enough already. But the facts are: 1. Derrick Brooks has never played in the 3-4 nor will he ever. He doesnt know the scheme, it would be retarded to bring him in because he doesnt know anything in the playbook and because he wouldnt be able to play the position, nor would he want to. 2. In a 3-4 since there is only 3 downlineman, chances are atleast one of those o lineman are going to be free to block on a running play. Please tell me how little old Derrick Brooks is going to take on an o lineman that weighs 100lbs more than him. Derrick brooks would be on his stomach being ass raped by the o lineman at this point in time. 3. Stop arguing about shit that you know absolutely nothing about. There is no argument besides something that raiderjoe concocted that could prove Derrick Brooks could play olb in a 3-4 defense so stop making yourself look like an ass turd. If youd like to consult RaiderJoe be my guest but until then stop posting this garbage
idk i picked him up on my madden franchise team and im running a 34 and he is doing just fine. haha:rofl:
Derrick Brooks is old, so I won't argue with you there, but he was a fantastic football player during his time. Good linebackers seem to thrive in whatever scheme and I don't image Brooks would fail at a transition. Farrior seems to do pretty well in the Pitt being an underweight 34 ILB. He didn't perform as well with us. Your argument about weights is ridiculous. 2X All-Pro outside linebacker the last 2 years is exactly 7 lbs heavier than Brooks plays at (James Harrison). Everyone thinks OLB in the 3-4 have to be LT in size and shape. They don't...if reading RaiderJoe's posts teaches anything: ideal sizes, weights and speeds have nothing to do with football prowess. Brooks also played WOLB. That means covered the weak side. The weak side implies the TE is on the opposite side, which means the WOLB goes against the LT most of the time. Also the argument that 43 OLB == 34 ILB is just wrong. We tried Farrior at WOLB because he was "too small" to play ILB in the both the 34 and the 43 after having many years of success at ILB in the 43 in college. Turns out he's a great ILB regardless of scheme.
