Ten years before that phone was in Juno it was also in Coming To America. Mr. McDowell had one on his desk in his office and was seen talking on it in one scene.

I couldn'tt find the scene but I found this one and I found it amusing. You can also see the burger phone on his desk if you look hard.

Ladies and Gents, I will be hitting up the first tri-state Sonic in Hasbrouck Heights tonight for dinner. It opened last week but you couldn't get near it. There were people parking half a mile away and walking there and people started showing up at 4am.

I shall eat as much of the menu as I can and report back to my fellow burger connoisseurs of TGG.

The lengths some will go to for onion rings

0 Comments HASBROUCK HEIGHTS — The opening of the metropolitan area's first Sonic Drive-In — the fast-food chain whose carhops glide around parking lots on roller skates — drew hundreds of people from as far away as Connecticut and New York on Sunday, tying up traffic on Route 17 and forcing the restaurant to turn people away.

"I've seen all the commercials [on national television], but we've never had a restaurant here, so I had to try it," said Art Mondshein, who drove from Manhattan, parked a half-mile away and walked, joining dozens of others forced to order on foot. Cars occupied the restaurants' 20 stalls all afternoon, and employees stood on Route 17 north turning away a quarter-mile-long line of cars with signs reading "Parking lot is full."

At least 50 walkers stood outside the restaurant — which has no indoor seating — as waitresses skated to those lucky enough to secure a parking stall.

By 3 p.m., the Sonic had filled more than 600 orders, said owner Danielle Pessolano, one of a handful of workers directing traffic and controlling the parking lot crowd. "Make room," she yelled to the crowd outside, as waitresses left the kitchen on skates.

She said the first car arrived at 2 a.m., five hours before the restaurant opened. When cooks showed up at 5 a.m., Pessolano said, half of the stalls were occupied. Several patrons drove from Westchester County and Connecticut, she said.

"There's just this pent-up demand," Pessolano said.

Oklahoma City-based Sonic, which has more than 3,500 restaurants, is popular in the Midwest and South but was absent from New Jersey until Pessolano's family opened the state's first outlet in Waretown two years ago. Many who came to the Hasbrouck Heights opening Sunday said the TV commercials — featuring witty dialogue between car passengers — had tempted them for years and that they had tried Sonic while vacationing.

The frenzy for homemade onion rings and drinks with a seemingly endless number of flavor combinations led to some acts of mild desperation and courage Sunday.

After parking at a nearby animal shelter, sisters Liberty and Mary Asunscion of Paramus crossed railroad tracks and navigated a path of boulders stretching across a creek and bordered by barbed wire fencing. "We did it for the shakes," Liberty said.

Cris Lopez, 18, and his friends, all from Secaucus, drove in circles for about 30 minutes until a stall opened. "I'm the happiest guy in all of North Jersey," Lopez said, while sipping a drink delivered by a carhop. He said it was the group's second trip of the day. They came for breakfast at 8 a.m., went home for a nap and returned for a midafternoon snack.

Across the parking lot, Mondshein, of Manhattan, approached a van waiting in the drive-through line and asked if he could piggy-back on her order. He wanted to bypass the dozens of people on foot waiting to submit orders.

From the driver's seat of her van, Kiamesha Washington of Bloomfield gave Mondshein a look of disbelief and said, "I'm waiting in line, too." But after Mondshein explained the lengths he had gone to get a burger, a Santa Fe salad and limeade, she relented.

"If he hadn't told me he had come all the way from Manhattan, there was no way," she said.

It's not the Tri-State's first, because New Jersey has been building them up in recent years, but more towards shore and Philly I guess.

Either way, if I'm going somewhere that I pass near a Sonic, I make a point to stop in.

    Cranberry Limeade, mmmm.

Mr. Tony Mantana (said in my best scarface voice),

I just checked the Sonic webpage and you are correct sir, there are 3 in PA and 1 in NY, but this is the first in the garden state. This is however, the only one within 60 miles of my house.

NOW ALL WE NEED IN BERGEN COUNTY IS GOD DAMN WAFFLE HOUSE !!!

We should trade South Carolina, some hooked on phonics tapes for 1 Waffle House straight up. Get it done Corzine!

There are at least 3 in NJ that I know of. [Haynesport, Waretown, one down towards Wildwood I believe]

Edit: Upon closer look, the one up in H.H. is the 5th in NJ.

In honour to the thread creater I went Burgin today. The diner near my work does a $13 beef burger that I had not yet tried.

From now on it will known as the Crom Burger, and it was delicious. As if the Crimmerian had slaughtered the beast with his own blade. Tomato relish like a virgins spilled entrails.

I give this burger 4 Cimmerians out of 5

I just had a burger from hell.

I went to the primary school to eat luch with my 5 year old son. A kid across the table sneezed on my food. The little girl sitting beside me dropped her chocolate milk. The food was horrible. I had sweet tea with no ice. BUT ... my son is awesome. He was worth every second I was there!
