Clemens did fairly well bringing us back against Baltimore when he got that start a few years ago didnt he? If it wasnt for McCraphands we might have won that game. I think he looks better against Baltimore as he has seen them before. Sanchez might be alittle overwhelmed...hope he proves me wrong.
Clemens= steady & consistent INTs....dont know where everyone been getting their info but everytime I read something either they both struggle or Sanchez throes TDs while Clemens throws picks...see below Rookie QB Mark Sanchez had a good practice session this morning completing 7 of 14 passes with 2 touchdowns, both TDs to WR Brad Smith. QB Kellen Clemens took a step back, completing 4 of 7 with 2 interceptions. So, it looks like Sanchez is back on top again but the question is for how long, as both have been really inconsistent. The Monday Night game against the Ravens should help determine the starter.
You put the guy in who has the best chance to use the year effectively, whether that means winning a bunch of games for us or getting the experience needed to do so in the future. Does anybody really think Kellen Clemens is that guy? What kind of maniacal franchise would allow their top 5 pick to be beat out by a guy playing at roughly the same level who has had 4 shots now to take the job and not made it yet?
Also I'm tired of hearing how Sanchez should sit and learn...how can he learn to play at game speed if he's holding a clip board....he should start and learn from his mistakes this season. We have a very strong OL so he shouldn't get killed back there. Just give him a chance...I would rather win 5 to 9 games with him then 5 to 9 with Clemens.
Unless Clemens is hands down way better than Sanchez.. then Sanchez should start...if it is at all close.then you have to put the kid in since he will be the future of the organization.. at besides talent.. Sanchez has acted like the leader of this team..and clemens hasn't ..
I'm as interested as the next fan to keep up on how the QB situation is developing, but geez, let's not take every new day of practice as some kind of grand signal as to who's going to be under center in week 1. A couple of picks one day doesn't all of a sudden mean that one guy or the other is sucking it up in general. Sure, it's not exactly a good sign to be throwing picks instead of TDs, but one day of practice is just a drop in the bucket. It's not like we as fans really have to worry about it - I'm confident that Rex and Schotty will start the guy who they believe is our best option when all is said and done - but the day to day dogging on one guy or the other based on one stat is getting pretty tired though. The next couple of preseason games should give everyone alot more insight into things than these tiny blurbs coming out of the daily practices.
The problem with picking Clemens to be the starter is his obvious lack of pocket presence. I hit 4 practices at training camp and became very impressed with Sanchez's footwork and pocket awareness, something that Clemens obviously does not have. At this point Sanchez is obviously having some consistency problems but he will be able to make things happen by avoiding sacks, getting out of the pocket and finding guys downfield. Clemens seems mobile enough but seems to panic in the pocket which leads to sacks, fumbles ect... IMO, let the kid take the field in game 1. He will obviously throw too many picks, but we had another QB who did that last year and he will be a HOFer.
