Would you take him in to be a third QB? Rumor is the Vikes will release him. He has to be better than Ainge and should push for the #2 role.
If he's available, its not a bad deal. Pick him if released and you'll have good depth at QB. Clemens probably won't be here next yr so this couldn't hurt.
You saw Ainge play against the backups of one of the worst D's in the NFL. Not that I love Jackson, but what ainge did against the Rams's 2nd and 3rd string guys is nothing special. Jackson has player QB in the NFL and at times looked decent and at times completely lost. While he's an upgrade over Ainge, he's not one over Clemens or Sanchez. If the contract was right I'd sign him, but I doubt that he would want to come in and battle for a 2nd string job here.
Ideally you want a game manager as your backup QB, and Jackson is anything but. He has a hard enough time establishing a rhythm when he's starting, I shudder to think about what would happen if he had to come in cold off the bench. If the Jets want to bring in another QB they should pick up whoever gets squeezed out of Tampa Bay.
For a 2nd year QB, Ainge looked pretty good playing against #2's and #3's. He's got 3 more years on his 5th round pick contract. Let's just roll with what we've got.
If he was going to be a 3rd stringer anyway why would he want out of Minnesota? My bet is he ends up in Houston and him and Rosenfels switch spots.
Ainge really didn't look bad at all. In fact, he looked more poised and in control of the game than Clemens did in his short body of work last week. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of Ainge's play over the last 3 qtrs of the game.
I've always liked Ainge. I was happy when we drafted him and I think he has the tools to be a good QB in this league one day. Most people disagree with me, but I'd rather keep him.
Ainge actually looked better then sanchez. he did everything that Mark did and did it easily over an extended playing time. Why not trade CLEMENS for Marshall of another WR? Kellen will not be here next year and we should get something for him.
I don't see any reason to go after Jackson when we have Brad Smith on the roster. I think Smith is capable of throwing the ball or running a wildcat-type play if he's actually prepared for it.
