Love it. That's what I'm looking for too - fuck the naysayers! However - comparing my favorite Jet of all time - Tooooooon!! - to B. Marshall at this point is rather shaky. If I recall correctly, Toon played the game with style and class and didn't have an overinflated ego like too many of the young hotshots these days.
Brandon Marshall's crimes are 100X worse than Michael Vick's. Multiple domestic violence calls are far worse than killing multiple dogs. He's a night out in Manhattan away from being arrested for another DWI (or DWI-related fatality).Plus, his cousin is instrumental in the altercation that left a teammate...dead? You can shy away from friends who provide bad company, but family? You're stuck with them in your entourage forever. Talented...sure. Potential for another Plaxico-type of play off the field...outstanding. This is the kind of guy the NFL should be making an example out of. Fans should be more concerned about the one that keeps getting away with trouble with barely a slap on the wrist, than the guy who got into trouble and went to prison as punishment.
People who think that the Jets can get Dwayne Bowe for a 2nd round pick are being delusional. Bowe is very productive and signed to a reasonable contract for 3 more years. Plus, he was drafted at #23 overall--you really think that the Chiefs would give him up for less than they spent to get him in the first place? If the Jets want him they should be prepared to part with their #1 pick, and maybe a little extra. Kansas City has no real incentive to move him right now; they can always trade him near the draft if they don't want him after the season.
Either of these guys might buy us an addtional win, getting us over the hump to a whopping 5. People, we're not a player away from the playoffs. We have a supposedly deep draft coming. Save picks and draft depth in the uncapped year where you can frontload the crap out of their contracts. I've made a big stink about wanting a big time wide receiver, but come on. We're going to sacrifice a deep draft in a year where we're not going to make the playoffs anyway?
I would bet any amount of money that the Giants won't give up either one of those talents. Hixon's contract is up at the end of this year, but outside of courting him via FA, I don't see any trades happening.
Tannenbaum has brought in high-end talent on par with any team in the league, and probably better than most. But he has consistently failed to bring in depth, and this can't be ignored. It's not reasonable to ask for a pro-bowler as a backup, but it isn't to request at least serviceable talent. Tannenbaum hasn't brought in quality backups for some time now. He does everything well besides that, and he needs to change it or I think he could be in trouble. This is especially true if the Jets fold down the stretch.
Giving up one pick for a superstar talent in a deep draft is hardly sacrificing a draft. These two WRs we are talking about are legit superstars just entering the prime of their careers.
Marshall is a headache off the field and has trouble staying on the field. Baby T.O. indeed. I'd take Bowe for a 1st in a heartbeat though. He is already developed 1st round talent with a good reputation and excellent skills. Get it done Tanny.
i would give up a 1 for bowe and a 2 for marshall, everyone is saying we need to keep the picks, but most likely we will be looking at a wr in the first next year anyway, and how is any prospect coming out next year better than bowe or marshall? The only reason i would be wary of marshall is because of his off field troubles but if tanny brings him in im confident that he has a good idea that he is a changed man
There is no way we can draft anyone in the first round next year with as much guaranteed talent and experience as Bowe. A first would be a no brainer.
so you don't think the Jets are anywhere close to being a playoff caliber team? I totally disagree. You can talk rookie QB all you want but did anyone think the Falcons were going to take that step next year? The Ravens did it too. What do those 2 teams have in common with us? They can run the football. The Jets can run it too.
We're not winning 5 games this year. That should get us somewhere in the top-7 picks. Trade down. Stockpile. Fill depth. Everyone is disillusioned that we're going to have some great year, so why not take a risk? Because it's a massive risk when you consider the potential a top-10 pick is worth in a deep draft.
I think our offensive and defensive lines are too good to be a 4 win or fewer team. If we experience injuries in those areas, that's another story.
Thats true in some cases, but not all. Thing is, you first need to get the starters, then find their backups. Teams like Giants n Pats have solid starters almost all over the place. All they need to do is find good backups. Jets have a lot of needs. Tanny has addressed most of them by bringing in solid players, especially on the D. This Jets team is maybe two or three more players away before it can work with the backups. A WR and a DE or two. Those two positions would be address next draft (unless a WR cuts loose and steps it up big time this season). Once u have those positions settled, then you'll go for OL, DL, and LB depth. I am pretty confident in Ryan and I think he'll be able to find some good depth in the UDFAs such as Westerman. Its always a work in progress. Next yr you'll lose couple of players aswell that you'd need to replace. I believe, for example, spending a 1st and a 4th on a superstar is the best use of the pick. What guarantee is there that you'd be drafting a superstar with ur 1st and a solid backup with the 4th? Yeah, you are trading away picks, but you are also getting a player in return right? Its not u're flushing it down the toilet. If Bowe or Marshall can be had for a 2nd, do it. Thats a no brainer. 2nd isn't a high price and you have to be really lucky to get a good WR in the 2nd that can produce right away.
i'm thinking more of a 6-8 win season. terrance cody at #13 is more important to the whole defense than one of these WRs are to the whole offense. i'm to stubborn and proud to even suggest this is JMHO.
There is no real reason to think we won't win 5 games, especially if we can bring in a legit superstar WR. I can't imagine anyone in the Jets FO is thinking they won't win 5 games next year. Seriously, we won't win 5 games next year? Unless the team is devestated by injuries there is no reason we won't win 8 at a minimum, that puts us just about in the middle of the first round where it would be unlikely to get the kind of talent we are sure to get from a Marshall or Bowe. Either way this talk probably becomes moot because I don't see any way possible either WR gets traded at this point.
Alio the fool, please explain why we would be "not (even) winning 5 games this year"? Who did we lose in the FA or off season for u to come up with such a conclusion?
I'll throw this bone. If the deal is for the second round pick, I'd be okay with it. I wouldn't love it, but I'd be happy to have a real WR threat to let Cotch be the great #2 he is.
This is where my expectations lie, anywhere from a 7-11 win season is possible depending on breaks and if certain players step up big time.... barring serious injuries to our key components a 5 win season may cause Rex to quit with the way he has been talking....
