I see the RedSox got another SS..how many is that this year? Not much..Gonzales from the Reds. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4399324
Cubs won 17-2. Charlie Morton entered the game with a 3.81 ERA through ten starts. Ten earned runs and three outs later, he departed the game with a 5.51 ERA. Chris Bootcheck entered the game with a 21.6 ERA. It actually rose. He allowed seven earned runs in 2.1 innings. That was his longest appearance of the season. His ERA is now 24.75. The game featured 19 runs in the first four innings and zero runs in the last five.
The Angels seem to have caught whatever ailed Tampa Bay earlier this month. Tied at 8 against Baltimore in the 13th now. Angels 11th Jim R. Johnson pitching: Maicer Izturis: Ball, Strike looking, Strike looking, Ball, Foul, Foul, Ball, Foul, Izturis walked. Bobby Abreu: Abreu singled to left, Izturis to second. Juan L. Rivera: Strike looking, Strike looking, Rivera reached on fielder's choice to second, Izturis to third, Abreu out at second. Kendry Morales: Ball, Ball, Strike swinging, Ball, Morales walked, Rivera to second. Torii Hunter: Hunter lined into double play second, Morales out at first. End of Inning (0 Runs, 1 Hit, 0 Errors) Angels 12th Brian Bass pitching: Erick Aybar: Ball, Aybar grounded out to first. Mike Napoli: Napoli singled to right. Howie Kendrick: Pickoff attempt, Bunt foul, Pickoff attempt, Strike looking, Kendrick singled to center, Napoli to second. Chone Figgins: Figgins hit by pitch, Napoli to third, Kendrick to second. Maicer Izturis: Strike looking, Foul, Ball, Foul, Izturis grounded into double play first to catcher to first, Napoli out at home. End of Inning (0 Runs, 2 Hits, 0 Errors) back to back innings they had the bases loaded with 1 out and failed to score due to a double play.
The dam finally breaks. Angels get three in the 13th and they're on their way to a win. They're still batting and could tack on more.
This says Nats have offered Strasburg 17 million which can easily go to 20. I can't believe they will turn it down. http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/32446887/ns/sports-player_news/
wouldn't be surprising when you think about the past can't miss pitching prospects who got exorbitant contracts. The vast majority failed to make an impact. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb Who's to blame for the Strasburg situation? Nationals, Boras, or Strasburg Boras only getting 75%. Should be above 90. He's a snake and he does this with every player he represents. The players are typically not interested in sitting out, but Boras poisons them against the team. Read Selena Roberts's book about A-Rod for a detailed look at the negotiations with the Mariners. Boras wouldn't even let him sign. Someone else had to do the deal, and Boras was furious.
At least as of yesterday, all three top choices hadn't signed. All three are represented by Boras. What an interesting coincidence.
Smoltz has been released and Boston will be paying him for the rest of the year. Obviously, as a Yankee fan I would like to see them pick him up, pitch him once against the Sox and hope he wins and then release him. http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/32450600/ns/sports-player_news/
No Strasburg announcement and it is 12:07. Wonder if it got done or not. Update: ESPN says he signed for 15.67 mil. Boras must be beside himself.
Great move by the Nationals! I am so happy for the fans down here to have something to be happy about. What else do they got, besides Zimmerman who is a beast.
I disagree. It should be 100% on the player. Boras' job is to get the most amount of money he can possibly get for his client. He may be an asshole about doing it, but he's just doing his job the best he can. The players on the other hand hired him KNOWING how he operates and are the ones who ultimately decide whether or not to sign. In the end Boras is the employee of the player, not the other way around, and the responsibility for the methods of negotiating has to fall on them.
Boras controls his players, not the other way around. No player orders Boras around. A-Rod couldn't. Strasburg isn't. When you hire Boras, you do what he wants. You say what he tells you to say. He's a manipulative scumbag. Mets just scored 8 off Lowe in the 4th and knocked him out. 8-4. Mets 4th Derek Lowe pitching: Angel Pagan: Strike looking, Ball, Ball, Pagan reached on an infield single. Luis Castillo: Ball, Pickoff attempt, Strike looking, Ball, Castillo singled to right, Pagan to third. Gary Sheffield: Sheffield doubled to deep right, Pagan and Castillo scored. Daniel Murphy: Ball, Strike swinging, Ball, Foul, Foul, Ball, Foul, Foul, Murphy grounded out to second, Sheffield to third. Jeff Francoeur: Ball, Ball, Francoeur doubled to center, Sheffield scored. Fernando Tatis: Strike looking, Tatis singled to left center, Francoeur scored. Omir Santos: Strike looking, Pickoff attempt, Santos singled to center, Tatis to third. Anderson Hernandez: Foul, Ball, Strike looking, Foul, Hernandez singled to right, Tatis scored, Santos to second. Oliver Perez: Bunt foul, Ball, Bunt foul, Perez singled to right, Santos to third, Hernandez to second. Angel Pagan: Foul, Ball, Pagan reached on fielder's choice to second, Santos scored, Hernandez to third, Perez out at second. Luis Castillo: Pickoff attempt to first, Ball, Pagan stole second, Strike looking, Ball, Castillo singled to right, Hernandez and Pagan scored
The ten hits in an inning is a new Mets record. It comes against Derek Lowe with a minor league lineup. Figure that out.
